Thanks all for the info and special thanks to Tolmie for reminding me of a song I long forgotten, Crowded House (how could I ever forget?)... damn that really brought back some fond memories from way back!!

The reason for the deadline is surely the new squad of 25 rule. We need to know the total number of players in so we can calculate how many must go before 01/09/2010.

At the moment we have 38 in the first team squad. 6 of those don't count as they were under 21 on 01/01/2010. This leaves 32 so, as it stands we must get rid of 7 players. If we were to sign another 4 (incuding the wow) we would have to shift 11 players out in a month.

The transfer window is therefore bound to be frantic right up to the deadline even if it's just players going out. This is of course unless we are happy to pay players who are not allowed to play but I can't see Mancini wanting to work with an overly large squad containing disruptive influences who know they won't be playing under any circumstances.

I'll be glad when everyone is signed, it's frustrating as hell waiting for announcements!

I've reached a very zen like state. Even if the transfer window slammed shut tonight - with the squad we have, I'd be confident that we are fully equipped to mount a serious title challenge...
I don't think we're quite there to challenge for the title just yet, but if it shut tonight i'd be confident of top 3 definitely

I hope this board doesn't get obsessed by the WOW signing... Its obviously in the balance as TH says, so if it doesn't happen, this board could go back to being a mess of insults etc...

The likelihood, by the sounds of it, is our summer will be David Silva, Yaya, Boateng, Balotelli, Kolarov and one more, (Milner, Dzeko or Arteta ). That should be way ahead of most peoples expectations, it is above mine.

thanks for the update TH too...

good point!
We are becoming a little too transfixed with the 'Wow' signing and also it may never have existed. But if we reflect on where we finished last season and who we have already brought in and the fact that the new players last year are now firmly bedded in (exception of robinho) then we should be looking at challenging. The most important signing is now kolarov as that left back position is our weakest - solve that and it's happy days, anyone else is a bonus

The reality is that our owners will ALWAYS be on the lookout for a "marquee" signing - so it'll always be on the cards come the summer transfer window. However, in terms of Mancini's happiness with the make up of the squad - the players brought in in the coming 10 days will be the ones he wants to start the season. The "marquee" will be an extra player...and therefore not integral the manager's immediate plans...if that makes sense.

To be honest, there's actually very little mystery left to this transfer window (as disappointing as that is for some). It's crystal clear we want Balo (or Dzeko), Milner (or Arteta), and Kholarov, to complete our main business for the summer...

My personal opinion is that these players will signal an end to us doing incoming business...

The info was seven in - ten out...

If you consider Petrov, Boj are already gone - eight more.

For me if we sign 3 of those players we will be good enough to challenge for the title, top 4 should be nailed on and anything less than that to be considered as an absolute failure of monumental proportions!

Can you explain why the club would have Micah doing a daily diary if the intention was to sell him? Doesn't exactly look like professional, attention to detail if they have him earmarked for exit.
