A machete attack to head doesn't count as attempted murder??

Yeah, there was quite a few high profile cases shortly after that had been clearly rushed through. I felt really sorry for the man at the trial I was on, he'd been put through hell for months and I was astounded it had even got to trial. We all were to be honest.
There were hundreds, possibly thousands of such trials, over about a three to four year period. Mainly between 2012 and 2016 would be my guess. Some will have been convicted.

Please tell me this is some kind of sick joke ?
Sort of.. i mean, you hear the word machete and you think of a massive hacking blade, and of course forcefully striking a person with one would demand an attempt of murder charge.. atleast to any normal thinking people anyway, who know that blades are usually sharp..

But a blunt machete? Im just saying there's a grey area there.

Imagine hitting someone with a machete you knew to be blunt.. this machete is old, and cut through many an ear of wheat.. as well as and bamboo sticks and elephant tusks..this type of machete is probably more closely related to what people call a bat, a bat you might hit a ball with.. nobody gets charged with attempted murder of balls do they?

The answer to the OP is quite straightforward: attempt murder, ceteris paribus, is about the hardest offence to prove to the criminal standard, and the maximum sentence for s18 GBH is the same, namely life.

You do the math(s).
Why did the fella only get 10 and half years then? And not life?

Blunt?? He sliced through his head numerous times. Nothing blunt about this machete. Pull a lethal weapon, expect a sentence commensurate to your actions. It's as simple as that.

I don’t know, I wasn’t there for the sentencing, and didn’t hear any of the evidence; although he was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with a further three years on extended licence.
That's nonsense he got two thirds of 16yrs. With three years on licence. Don't fall for the lies the courts dish out.
