A thread about protesters

How is protesting preventing the continued destruction of the planet? This is the idiocy of these arguments, it's like these protesters are doing great work and they're the line between good and evil but they aren't, they aren't scientists, they're idiots gluing themselves to a road.

What the protesters have done is raised awareness not of insulation but rather of just how shit we ALL are in dealing with this issue. Deep down though we know there's nothing we can do about it and the reality is none of us are prepared to suffer to help. You don't even need insulation, just turn the heating off and keep it off but how many will or even can do that?

I live in a new build which has solar panels that generate next to nothing at the moment because of the low sun and short days. It also has plenty of insulation, we have it in the attic and we have it in the wall cavities. However, even with these 'efficient' things we still rely on the grid for 99% of our electricity and we put the heating on in the evening last night and early today because it was freezing. It therefore does not make any real difference.

Consider this, to avoid catastrophic warming we have to reduce our emissions faster than we have increased them over the last century... At no point in history have emissions fallen except for the worst of the pandemic last year where our social and economic systems basically collapsed for 6 months.

I believe in climate change and it's almost certainly going to cause us problems but I don't think that we can do anything about it. The only thing we can do about it is to take radical actions to bring us back to the low emission equivalent of life in the 1800's.... And wasn't life great in those days?
Sorry if I gave you the impression I wanted to have a discussion on the environment with your type. You people are the problem not the solution.

Well no they shouldn't, but the current process of arresting them and sending them to court is working far better than if someone decides to harm them and make a martyr out of then.

These road blockings have been popping up periodically and they've never been too bad for too long. It's the same small set of people every year. Run one over with your car and I promise you the numbers will boom.
I'm perfectly happy to see them arrested and end up jailed, if someone decided to deliberately kill one, that would also
be addressed by the courts. If the next tranche of lunatics
they arrest follow their lead and end up there, it's all good.

You have a funny sense of extremism a bit of glue and the mad bad ideology of insulating homes.

Should we be allowed to continually destroy the planet?

I know which is the most extreme and dangerous ideology.
It would appear that the British judiciary fall into your version
of extremism, they've not listened to this argument either.

you’re relaxed about the prospect of murder and you think Insulate Britain are the extremists. Amazing

No, I said that the courts would react to anyone commiting
crimes, in the same way as they have just done, it seems that
you do not like this.

Why do you think these people are now in jail?

Because the planet is going to shit and those in charge won't do enough about it due to the apathy of human beings.

When people started annoying those self interested arseholes the government had a choice. They chose the easy option because they need votes from the same apathetic arseholes.

I hope that clears it up for you.

So in your opinion anyone against the antics of these people are self interested arseholes.
It's an opinion I suppose, thankfully only held by the likes of those now inside.

It’s perfectly reasonable to care about the environment, do your bit and support the principle behind groups like Insulate Britain but at the same time, disagree with their tactic of protest.

To suggest anything else is an extreme view imo.
