How is protesting preventing the continued destruction of the planet? This is the idiocy of these arguments, it's like these protesters are doing great work and they're the line between good and evil but they aren't, they aren't scientists, they're idiots gluing themselves to a road.
What the protesters have done is raised awareness not of insulation but rather of just how shit we ALL are in dealing with this issue. Deep down though we know there's nothing we can do about it and the reality is none of us are prepared to suffer to help. You don't even need insulation, just turn the heating off and keep it off but how many will or even can do that?
I live in a new build which has solar panels that generate next to nothing at the moment because of the low sun and short days. It also has plenty of insulation, we have it in the attic and we have it in the wall cavities. However, even with these 'efficient' things we still rely on the grid for 99% of our electricity and we put the heating on in the evening last night and early today because it was freezing. It therefore does not make any real difference.
Consider this, to avoid catastrophic warming we have to reduce our emissions faster than we have increased them over the last century... At no point in history have emissions fallen except for the worst of the pandemic last year where our social and economic systems basically collapsed for 6 months.
I believe in climate change and it's almost certainly going to cause us problems but I don't think that we can do anything about it. The only thing we can do about it is to take radical actions to bring us back to the low emission equivalent of life in the 1800's.... And wasn't life great in those days?
