No idea. mate.

The one I remember was the underground place ( The sportsman?) about half way down market street.
Yeah it's the same place. It was 'The Auld Reekie' and then became 'The Sportsman'. As you walked down Market Street from Piccadilly it was on your left hand side and you went downstairs to it. They did a cracking pint of Tartan Bitter in there.

We'd start in there and then go up to The John Bull on Brown Street or The Shakespeare behind Lewis's. Thats the only one thats still there now.

Sportsman did a great pint of mild

Were there laws back then saying you could only take pictures of the city centre as long as there was a bus in shot?! :o)

I thought the same thing!!! Seems the only people who took pictures back then were geeky bus spotters!

I did see my old bus home though! http://www.flickr.com/photos/boxley/440707447/
haha

I'm sure those Little Gems (P11) used to go down Kippax Street. I remember getting my arse pinched by 2 black girls in Piccadilly when I was on the way to Maine Road once. Was only about 19, on my own, shit myself.

Same place used to go there after work in the early 70's. Halfway down Market St where Tesco's is next to JJB Sports.

Now then who remembers the Cromford Club and Stax hairdressers just off Market St, then obviously the Underground Market
I remember Stax hairdressers but not the Cromford Club. If you went down by the entrance to the Underground Market you had Brahms and Liszt further along on the left hand side. Before it became a dedicated nightclub it opened early evening and you could get food in there. Had Spaghetti Bolognese for the very first time in there one Friday night - can't believe I was at work and had never had Spaghetti Bolegnese but people didn't cook that sort of thing then!!!

The John Bull did have strippers on Friday lunchtimes and it was free to go in. It was funny cos the girls danced every 30 minutes on the hour/half hour and the whole of Manchesters working blokes seemed to organise their lunch around them. At 10 to 1 the place was EMPTY but at 5 to 1 it was PACKED. It then emptied and was not packed again till 25 past 1 - haha.

Sunday lunchtime. Pubs were only open 12 -2 and the John Bull was always packed.

Went in the Shakespeare a few months ago. Not up to much really, but then again it never was. The City Arms is a great manchester pub.

Anyone remember the Millionaire Club at the back of Lewis's which Peter Stringfellow ran before he went off to New York and London to create Stringfellows?

Got pissed in there loads. Had 2 of the best bouncers ever a bald lad called Jimmy and a scouser called Dave and some of the barmaids were well fit
