A watch as an investment

If I spent £7300 on a watch I don't think I'd ever wear it just in fear of getting it damaged or stolen! But if your lad can afford it then my advise is do whatever makes you happy!! As for style of watches I'm fucking useless with them, but I can appreciate a nice watch!

Aww thanks for all the advice. You've all helped. Just wanted to make sure if he spent that amount he spent it wisely

If he can break even in ten years time then his investment will have been succesful by means of the pleasure it gave him during ownership.
Of course he could buy shares in an investment vehicle like Tesco because every little helps.
Halfed in value over the decade and pants for telling the time with.

Has he considered wine ?
I could let him have a crate at trade.
Uncup of your hands Bob,let him fly and live out his dream.
Fact of the matter is when push comes to shove these dream aint worth spit parder and not all they purport to be.
Most are hype spin and hyperbole to keep us all on the Hamsterial wheel to a town called nowhere !

We got a new car just for us and not for work.
Its ok but the novelety factor soon wore away even though it talks to us like kit.
Its nice as apple pie but it aint no dream.
Its been nice talking hombre and if you see the Citizen tell him i'm looking for him..

need advice as my son wants to invest in a watch and as I and he know practically nothing about them I thought I'd ask you guys.

He's seen a hublot classic fusion men's watch but it's £7300 and I've never heard of them so I'm trying to put him off. Surely for that price he can get something that is better ? I told him he's need insurance and I think it's expensive to get batteries etc replaced isn't it

I am quite into watches and have several. If you buy the right Rolex sports model, it will increase in value. Same for Patek Philippe but finding right one like a 5712 will be very hard.

Hublot? He will take a bath on that Classic Fusion and lose about half within a year. It would be a terrible buy.

Rolex Sumariner. That would be the best place to start. There's lots more to it but that watch is money in the bank.

Tell him not to do it. If he is buying new, it will be more (generally) than an investment value (if it isn't, the company has underpriced it, which, trust me, never happens), so he will have to wait for a substantial increase in value just to break even and with a Hublot that may never happen. If he wants something as an investment he should buy an old classic mechanical watch at an auction and keep it for a while. At least then he will know he is getting something at its investment value and, after that, more time, should be more money.

Just out of interest, is he planning to wear the watch, or just keep it somewhere safe in its box?

The big factor in the value of watches is the value of luxury goods generally. They have been rocketing largely due to the expanding Chinese market. As a result the ticket prices have been rocketing and therefore the value of equivalent older models has followed the new models upward. Will this continue? My guess would be no.

Cheers I've told him what you said
