A380

minor things. Thankfully found before anything major happens. Sadly in the world of instant media it will create a lot of scare mongering.

Still would love to fly on 1 of these and marvel at some great engineering. Lets hope it doesn't get out of hand. The grounding of Concorde sent us back decades.

Sadly there will never ever be anything like concorde as airplane travel has become for the masses and the cheap. Hardly anyone was using concord anyway until they announced they were retiring it
Cocncord is as amazing as it will ever get for domestic travel in an airplane. Even more amazing when you think when it first flew

The problems with cracks in the wings are already known to arise from unforeseen stresses introduced during the manufacturing process and this has been changed in the last few weeks in order to eliminate these.

Basically the wing is made of a series of ribs (which run front to back) and spars (which run across the span). They then put a skin over the rib-and-spar assembly and stretch it. The problem seems to be occurring where the foot of the rib meets the skin.

Surprised you haven't changed your username to Lord Prestwich seeing as you're now a celeb making ripples on the BBC Sportsday page.
LOL. Thanks for that but that wasn't exactly what I tweeted. "He is a classless ****" was diplomatically left out.

I get that Concorde was expensive but I mean we have never gone back to trying to develop those speeds for regular travel.

Thats what im saying they never will again. It was so massivly expensive to develop and run that tickets barely covered flight cost. Thats why people call a pinnacle a concorde moment because its the very pinnacle that will never be bettered. It was almost the UK and France saying look how big are cocks are when we made it.
An amazing passenger plane that will never be bettered

Well Concorde was never financially viable, and the crash was merely a good excuse to see the end of it.

However, the Space Shuttle was never financially viable, but they kept that alive. Concorde was a great engineering feat, but the 747 shouldn't be overlooked. That plane revolutionised air travel as we knew it. Bringing mass-transit to the air.

Interesting to note that they were going down the double-decker option for the 747, but they opted for the single, but wider deck for it for reasons of safety and comfort. The Head Engineer of the 747, Joe Sutter, is still a bit perplexed at whether the A380 will be a success or not. I think it will eventually, but don't think it will match the almost 1,500 747's they've built.

It could be worse, the A380 could be made by the Russians, their flight safety records are exemplary!

(not)

The 747 was certainly a successful aircraft, but the march of technology is unstoppable.

I must confess I wouldn't like to fly in an A380 at the moment. A bit like Doctors being neurotic patients.

Let's face it, the wings and engines are arguably the two most important / critical parts of a plane.

I love it when someone really sticks their neck out.

Me too - hahahahaha ...

Undercarriage anyone?

That would be an exciting landing every time.

The Uk had a go with HOTOL, but the challenges were just insurmountable: -
