Academy Pathway to the First Team

I still haven't figured out why Pep didn't try out Tosin and Frimpong and why Angelino was treated the way he was..
Angelino had skill but was way too slow for the English game.
Stuck out like a sore thumb in the epl games he played.
Frimpong has some fine skills but in the celtic games I have watched his final delivery is really poor.
Height and build may well have been a problem as well.
Tosin was on loan a lot of the time but I would have liked to have seen him get a chance in a few league games.
The one I seem to remember being a major hope was Brandon Barker.
Looked a prospect but did not develop.
Plays for rangers now after a spell with hibs.
More bad games than good now.

I pretty much agree, but we were saying the same about Foden for the past two seasons and to be fair to pep it seems he has handled Foden transition to a first team regular perfectly.
He has done well with Foden, certainly. However,i think the circumstances are a little bit different now, where as before we had the luxury of more players and longer recovery periods between games,we now find ourselves struggling for personnel and a mounting fixture list......it makes no sense to keep flogging the first team horse when we have an option to introduce the kids.

Great to see Palmer get some minutes, what a wonderful experience for the kid.

Well done Pep,just what was needed.
He seems taller and stronger than a season ago. Local lad who from all accounts is very dedicated, good luck to the youngster.

Tomorrow when the youth team plays Blackburn Rovers, in the FA youth cup semi-final. This should be a good guide as to what is coming through, from the under18's. This hopefully may tell us if their are decent enough players who maybe able to play for the 1st in a few years time.

I remember this tweet from City Chief-

The following academy players have been training with first team:

Doyle, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Delap, Felix Nmecha, Bernabe and Palmer.

Braaf was injured then but he is fine now, hopefully we play him also.

It will just be the same players who played in the competition last season - Harwood-Bellis, Egan-Riley, McAtee, Doyle, Edozie, Knight, Rogers, Braaf, Palmer, Delap etc.

We need to be seeing some of these players in and around the first team squads on match days. The best chance is on a European night. As you can name a bigger bench. Plus the chance of making 5 subs per gsme.

You’d have thought there might be room on the bench for Felix Nmecha today, but Pep has named 3 centre backs instead. He really needs a loan in January.
