Adam Johnson

I just don't get the bin johnson feelings expressed herein.

He's the best; English, young, highly talented players we have. Skills and potential wise, he is head and shoulders above Milner - yet I don't see the same clamour for Milner's head?

I have said the same thing all along. He is LEFT footed - that means he crosses with his LEFT foot. Yet he's played on the RIGHT. It was the same when Tevez was being asked to play the lone-striker role - something he was totally unsuited for.
Its horses for courses, pegs-in-holes etc, but don't think the boy Johnson can't perform the role of winger - he's just not being given the chance.

Another example of this was Mcmananamamaman for England. Constantly played on the wrong wing. Therefore having to cut back to be effective. Top defenders know this and force them inside. I can understand their frustration as they're being hamstrung all the time. You can see it in Johnson's body language. But the boy clearly wants to play for us and has huge ability. I suspect, if he was 'over the road' they'd certainly be playing him on the left wing.

If Mancini isnt going to play 4-4-2 at any time, then Johnson will never have a place in his team and, for the sake of the player, we should let him go. Chelsea's new boss obviously thinks 4-4-2 isnt dead yet..............

1) He is not really that young. Older than Aguero by the way.
2) No one is clamouring for his head. There are rumors about clubs wanting him, and folks are just trying to determine how much is good enough

He has played a bit on the left thos preseason. Didn;t make much difference, He is simply not a ball crosser.

He played on the left against Juventuss. Same result.

Young played on the left against the MLS allstars and Meirelles plays on the left all the time.

i see more than enough quality from him when hes on the pitch. all he needs is time, especially when the team changes as ofter as it does. sell him ? no chance !

We should really stop this 'potential' label on Adam Johnson. There's a multitude of wingers the same age that are a whole echelon above AJ. It's improbable that we're going to get good out and out wingers because we don't play that way.....

Quite frankly, AJ is a good winger (at least) and replacing him with budget acquisitions (like Alessio Cerci) is quite an ineffectual move.

You are surely joking? 50 odd goals in 2 seasons as a loan striker... cast your mind back to when he started really banging them in.. 2nd half of the first season and all last season, under Mancini, as a lone striker! He has very rarely played in a 2 under Mancini, and this idea of a 4-3-3 mancini plays is bullshit, we play with 5 in midfield. Tevez is best as THE lone striker.

It's entirely up to Johnson - Mancini rates him but is looking for a reaction. If he learns from Silva, Yaya, De Jong, Kompany, etc and realises that professionalism and hard work is what gets the rewards and starting places then he could be fantastic - if he prefers dicking about Manchestster and kidding himself he's professional then it's a sad waste of talent.
The thing I notice about him is that although he's skinny but he's definitiely not fit - needs more speed and stamina training.

First part, totally agree. Tevez is one of the great talents as a lone striker. However, although we won't rely solely on a 4-3-3, It's almost obvious he's gonna use this in an imperative game surely? It's a huge waste of tevez, Aguero, Dzeko otherwise. The midfield surfeit was used probably to compensate for the rustiness of the squad. He was still building a team and later on we saw what could be.....

I like the guy and think we missed him when he got injured in the last 3rd of the season and theres my problem.

I specifically remember a lot of us (me included) saying 'when AJ is back etc etc, we need his creativity from the left. I specifically remember Manchini saying similar things and you know what....we STILL havent signed any wingers so what makes you think not hainv ghim in the squad wont hurt us?

We need him as we are short on wingers. End of.

-- Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:52 am --

AJ has been quoted a few times as saying he preferes playing on the right and cutting in.

Agree with this. I'm slowly getting my head round the 'Mancini type' of player, and Johnson is starting to stand out as a character that doesn't fit the bill. If he doesn't wake up and smell the coffee, I predict a sharp exit and I'd back the decision, good player or not.
