Adam Johnson

The biggest problem Johnson has is that he plays alongside world class players. Silva, aguero, Tevez, nasri all make him look average.

If he was in out side 2004-2008 he would have been player of the season.

The bar is set high.when he isn't playing he needs to look at what silva does in the game, learn and get better.

For me he is no better now than he was when we signed him and this is true of many English players.

Training and watching he should have got better.

Still a good squad player though and will play in plenty of home and cup matches.

Can't see him making too many champs league games.

Strange how so many English players struggle to progress past a certain level. I'm a fan but IMO he was better when he joined us than now - I really believe that bad injury he got last season has affected him in some way, he can't get around players as easily now and also lacks the same hunger he had when he was a new kid from the Championship eager to prove himself. Hope he can step up.

I agree he looked to have lost the hunger. He was running himself silly when he first arrived. But it was all head down stuff. The key to his development is to become more aware and tactical, like Silva and Nasri. They don't just pick the ball up and charge every time. They are constantly looking to link up and pull opponents about. And they know when just to save energy.

Last year Adam wasn't thinking this way. He was thinking one dimensionally, getting into positions where he can have a go, even when it was smarter from the team's perspective to contribute to the 'circulation' in the final third that pushes and pulls at the defenders. But he played the majority of the game today with his head up, and still chose the right moments to just dribble. He might not be exerting the same influence as his two avowedly world-class team-mates, but I reckon he is moving in the right direction.

Honestly though it makes sense that foreign players grow in a new country. Its the reason why they tell lads to go away from home for University. Too many distractions and too much clutter. I don't think Cesc Fabregas would be the player he is today if he didn't come to England.

I thought today was a bad day at the office for him, however he is still young ,has the talent and we are also now comparing him with genuine world class players we have been blessed with.
He has the ability and time to be a star and can learn so much from the squad he trains with,if he wants to he can be a star here,i hope he can see that as Micah has.If not it will be his and our loss.
Lets be patient.

He just needs to hang out on the left wing. Like you used to do at school.
He's a left footed player. He's becoming a one trick pony - cutting in on his right. Today he kept running into the packed midfield.
IF he can get his boot round the ball from the touchline he might stand a chance of playing again. We dont have too many out and out wingers.

He did what he was told to do today, at least four other players looked below par, looked being the operative word, those players did the dirty work today, Johnson great young player, give it time!

He`s city`s latest boo boy where i was sat today.
He wasn`t great today but didnt deserve some of the shit i was hearing today.
Best one, was when Silva over hit a ball to AJ, muppet behind shouts "fucking hell Johnson" , i turn round and say " no way could he have got that" ,
muppet," should have read his mind " !!!!!!
