Adam Wharton

Not at all. For starters Rodri was a regular at a top 4 Spanish Club who had a few International caps under his belt.
That’s a crazy way of picking players unless you want us to buy players like Jesse Lingard and Tom Cleverley,

He played 18 games more at Atletico mostly as an 8. It’s not that big of a difference and Wharton has just gone to the Euros anyway.

The truth is, you can’t see what makes a good 6.

Rodri was more coverted player than Wharton at their comparable ages. I disagree with you on this.

The thing with a player like Wharton is after another year in the prem - he comes a £80m player immediately.

Buying him now for £40-50m and when Rodri (hopefully never) goes we have a quality replacement.
And at that price I would pass.

He becomes a £80 million player as he has developed due to playing games, which would not be the case with us.

Or he doesn’t kick on, in which case the interest in him goes down.

This deal makes no sense for the clubs/ player hence it won’t be done.

he just becomes an 80m player over two seasons here, instead of 1 at palace. :)

100% this. I think he looks class but best thing for him is stay at a club on the up playing week in week out under a really good coach . If he backs himself and his abilities he'll keep thriving and get the opportunity to move to a bigger club in the future with a strong case for getting into the first 11 straight away.

so Palace might have fucked it up, just wonder why you think they'd have done well out of it.
Purely on the monetary side of things (which is all important nowadays). If Mendy works out for them, then they'll be looking at circa £20mill+ profit for someone who was only there for 6 months. Possibly saving a chunk on their wages too.
