Adam Wharton

I think often City actually have a good reputation with other clubs when buying players.

Look at Lens with Khusanov. We payed what they wanted, maybe with incentives our end, but they will get their fee. We now have a good relationship and Bah has gone there.

City are a great team to deal with and has been multiple reports last few years of us talking to Palace whether it be for Eze or Wharton. Look at how Chelsea do business with them, cancel a loan and try and pressure them to sell.

I can see this being an easy deal for us to do if we want it.

Palace are also another team that reportedly has looked at McAtee. I want to say that Palace have asked about Lewis before as well but might be wrong, not sure where I read that.

What type of player is he? Ideally we need a new Gundo, IE - someone who can control the tempo from deep, break the lines with good passes, chip in with goals and assists and get stuck in off the ball.

He’s a great player but doesn’t have the goals that Gundo can contribute with running onto the ball but in my opinion has the potential for the rest mentioned. Obviously comparing a player to Gundo is hard because he is (despite what people are saying this season) a truly great player.

Think we'll need at least 1 homegrown player, and for ability, age to improve, and in a position we need, and getttable,Wharton looks to me to best bet out there.
Agree Wharton seems an obvious choice. Other than that we’d probably be looking at either Branthwaite or Guehi.

Needs to prove he can stay fit for a prolonged period of time. I reckon he has another season at Palace and gets a move the following summer

Lengthy absence this season with a groin injury. Not sure how that would sit with Guardiola’s comment about looking for players over whom there are no injury concerns.

His only injury so far in his career tbf.
Indeed, but with so few games left this season to demonstrate fitness/suitability, it may preclude us from following up any interest this summer.

Anyway, the original post on this thread reported that we viewed him as a long-term transfer target, and that was only June last year, so I expect we’ll continue to monitor his progress. With Rodri and Gonzalez we appear to have ample cover, for me, but neither Gonzalez nor indeed Wharton strike me as assist creators, and that’s what we’re desperately needing in midfield.

I can definitely see us moving for Wharton, we’re losing Walker definitely and the futures of Stones, Grealish and Carson are up in the air, leaves us short of home grown players. He would help as well as being a good understudy to Rodri.

It's called rotating. Nico can play higher up too. Amount of games we play Peps lack of rotation over the years has come back and bitten him hard on the ass this season
Rodri will take at least 12 months to get back to previous levels and the days of him playing 3 times a week may be over, he was running on empty long before his injury.
