Additional time

Agree, apparently the average in play at the moment is less than sixty minutes. reduce the play time to 80minutes like rugby? Could work but would never happen. So I guess we are stuck with arbitrary decisions of referees.
Yeah it’s probably best of a bad job. What was so weird about yesterday though was they didn’t account for the injury in injury time properly and left the game short by about 2 mins. Might not have made a difference but very inconsistent

Ha ha yeah our mate Twatwell blew up just as we were breaking away, funny that innit.

It's going to cause uproar this season. Who wants to bet which teams will benefit most? Felt like "play until Arsenal score" yesterday.

This is bob on. I’m actually aghast at how idiotic football fans are sometimes. It is no wonder this sport is stuck in the Stone Age when any change is met with attitudes like this.

2022: “Why don’t referees properly track the time wasted and punish players for time wasting tactics?” Said every single fucking person on this forum.

2023: “Why are referees booking players for kicking the ball away? Why is there 10 minutes added on? Ridiculous, the game is gone!”

It’s farcical. What do you people actually want?

I hope every player that kicks the ball away when it isn’t theirs to touch gets booked, relentlessly. I hope every player that feigns injury has to spend a minute on the touch line before coming back on. I hope referees add 15 minutes onto the game if 15 minutes of play have been lost, regardless of who wasted the time, I want matches with a commensurate and equal playing time. I don’t want what just benefits us (though this obviously will for anybody with a brain).

Why do I want this? Because this sport is currently a laughing stock. This stuff has been eradicated in every other sport known to man but not football. And I’m fucking sick of it. The fact other fans are happy to go back to letting wanker teams waste time like utter dicks because they don’t like the fact Arsenal equalised in the 100th minute is so incredibly short-sighted. How can you not remember how fucking frustrating the Everton and Forest games were last year? Goldfish-like memories.

And as for the people saying we’ll only get 4 minutes when we’re losing… tin foil hat myopic nonsense. I will gladly take a bet that we will always get at least 8 minutes of added time in the league when we’re losing, as long as they continue to apply the rules as they currently are.
Spot on this.

We’ve been moaning for years that we get screwed over by refs for not having enough time added on.

Now our (and it’s mainly come from our fanbase this, we’ve been moaning about it for a dozen years and I think the change that’s come in in world sport is in big part down to our moaning about it as it’s got the ball rolling!) gripe has been addressed, we have people moaning that it’s been put in place to screw us over.

The worst thing about our fanbase is the paranoia that everyone is out to screw us. Whilst we have some legitimate things to moan about, our fanbase has started moaning about everything (literally everything!) that isn’t 100% in our favour being there to do us in from a corruption point of view. Any goal we concede, any penalties we concede, any bookings we get, fouls we give away, fouls we don’t get, VAR decisions, goals we have disallowed, penalties we don’t get… always comes back to corruption when most of the time the decisions are right and even when they’re not they are most likely just mistakes and not because of corruption.

The game is being totally perverted. The whole notion of a 90minute game is now lost, we know it’s going to be much longer, how much longer is anyone’s guess. Rugby has time keepers and everyone knows what’s going on, once again football with its politics and special interests is way behind. It’s simple, appoint a time keeper, when the ball is dead stop the stadium clock, it won’t stop the tactical injuries because they are to stop a sides rhythm but running down the clock will be much harder.
Even that is avoided in Rugby as the trainer just comes on and the game carries on. It would cut so called injuries by 90% if they adopted that rule in football.

If they had accurate time keepers then they could just cut the game to ball in play - 65 mins or whatever they want to achieve and that’s it. The players would soon get the message.

They are tinkering too much and coaches are now instructing players to feign injury.

We should have retained possession better then. They wouldn’t have had the ball to try and score if we hadn't kept giving it away.

Look at arteta, since covid has had his team get treatment so he can do a NFL style tactical meeting with the playing staff.

tbf it was that last season, the injury team in some of their games most notably the southampton game was borderline criminal

I only saw the last 20 minutes yesterday after umpiring a local cricket match, but I was ready for a large amount of added time, after witnessing a pre season friendly at Edgeley Park last week that lasted for 103 minutes, despite no injuries for either team.

Everyone will have to adjust, but I can see some serious repercussions if a midweek cup match goes to extra time and penalties, and the away fans are panicking over the last train out of town. Maybe not at the ETIHAD, but somewhere like Anfield where you can't walk to the station.
