Adebayor to Spurs

Spurs fan in peace, like city a lot hope they win the league this season, given what they have spent this season, and what their fans had to put up with in the 1990s and early 2000’s. With a bit more attacking clout they should really have done better last season, and it would be nice seeing someone else winning the league for a change.

Anyway getting to Abebayor, I can understand why so many of the fans would be up in arms with us not even paying half his wages, but he can help us taking points from cities rivals, starting on Monday night. If you would have said last season about us signing Abebayor I would have laughed, but he is a lot better than what we have currently in the squad, and with us restricted in who we could target, he will be perfect solution for the team this season. Even with Adebayor we won’t finish anywhere near city this season.

Not the daftest thing i've ever heard from a spurs fan!

What's the best Spurs forum to read there take on things?

I looked, but their big forums are locked to non members and I couldn't be bothered to register. For some reason Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal seem to have several medium sized forums, rather than 1 very popular forum and several smaller one's, as we, Utd, Liverpool and Villa do. I like the fact I can lurk of Villatalk, Redcafe or Rawk and see what their fans are thinking. But with the London clubs you can't you really do that. The only open forums are those like GloryGlory, CFCnet or Arsenalmania and they don't have many members.

Evertons main forum is members only too(blue kipper) as are most of the rags. Redcafe is regarded as something of a joke even amongst rags.

Ok lets put one myth to bed here before it starts going mad here. Ade is our 5th choice striker thats not a big signing and shows what sort of level tottenham are at.
Redknapp is not some sort of magician who can get the best out of all his players, if that was the case he wouldnt need new signings would he as he would get the best out of what he has but he cant, hes good at giving a sound bite as a manager hes good but he isnt some kind of wonder boy.

The idea of helping spurs out is madness but before we turn ade into the best thing since sliced bread lets remember where he is on our totem pole and lets not buy into the media hype surrounding him and surrounding the messiah that the media want redknapp to be.

Last season they perpuated the myth that all four of their strikers had bad seasons, the myth that they were this attacking behemoth and all it needed was a striker on the end of it and they would have pissed the league. Can you imagine if any other team bar united would have used that excuse. All four of our strikers had a bad season they would be laughed at and rightly so.

But before Redknapp turned up at SPurs who rated Ekotto who is now seen as one of the best LB's in the Prem? Dawson was seen on a level with Titus Brambel, but has since been one of the best CBs in the Prem. Huddlestone couldn't even get a game and ended up in the preliminary squad for the WC. Bale was going to be loaned out the Forest and has since been named POTY. Modric was playing on the left and considered too lightweight, whilst now he's seen as one of the best CMs in Europe. Arsenal fans thought Gallas was finished, yet his performances last year proved them wrong. Bentley had been bought to replace Lennon, but under Saggy Chops, Lennon became Spurs POTY and went to the WC. Even Defoe had his best ever scoring season under Redknapp. This continul fan bashing of Redknapp is ridiculous and if there is a manager who could get the most out of Ade it is Redknapp. No one likes him, so everyone tries to make out he's shit, but he has done an excellent job at Spurs. The reason they are a top 5 side now is because of his ability to get players playing to their potential. I hope he gets sent to prison as it will be the end for Spurs as a top 6 team.
excellent, intelligently written post. I hate twitcher but that is based on an irrational hatred of all things cock-er-ney...despite that can't disagree with any of the evidence you put before us m'lord!

I am not bashing redknapp I admitted he was a good manager but what i wont admit is hes some kind of mircale worker wheeler dealer. I agree with all the players you have put forth but for all those players there is a hutton, there is a pavluychenko etc etc who hasnt been the wonderful player purported by mr redknapp.

Also im not sure who thinks ekkotto is one of the best lbs in the premier league i certainly don. huddlestone is a decent player but i dont really think being named in the england squad is the sign of being a great player ( note tom cleverly ). Bale was always a good player and it was through sheer luck that redknapp had to play him there and he took it and ran with it, not great management.

Like i said Im not redknapp bashing i dont like the guy purely because he is a soundbite machine and feels it is his job to be the moral compass of football and he has a free reign to comment on anything he sees fit but thats not to say the man is a bad manager i just think he is given alot of leeway and bigging up by the press that he doesnt particularly deserve.

Does everyone on here think that the club is totally stupid? Do you think that there's someone out there willing to pay big money for Adebayor and we are CHOOSING to loan him to Spurs instead? What if the only other option available to the club is to keep him on the books and pay all his wages? Lets say he's on 160k (and I have no idea how accurate that figure is) and Spurs are willing to pay 80k. That means we've saved circa 4 mill over the course of the loan, plus Spurs will probably have the option to buy at the end of the loan and even if they don't exercise this option, he will have been in the shop window and away from the rest of the squad where he would probably have been a sulking/unhappy pain in the arse. Maybe it's not ideal, but it's not the terrible option some make it out to be.

I think this deal, if true, is ridiculous but it doesn't seem so bad when you put it like that.

Pull it out mate. I consider myself a pretty level headed Spurs fan but you're basically just performing fellatio on the blues fans.

I dont think for a second City will be miles ahead of us. Buying Aguero is a great purchase, but selling Tevez comfortably offsets that. I don't think City are a better team last season by any stretch, and we were competing all year. If you have Tevez and Aguero playing together though, then I might agree.

Back on topic, Adebayor will be a great signing for us if it goes through. Never really rated him at Arsenal, Ive always thought Arsenal flatter their strikers in the goals column with their excellent midfield, but his first season with City proved me wrong.

I dont think he is the answer to our problems long term, enough fans have complained about his laziness, but on loan I don't see a downside.

As for Spurs strikers underperforming, the reality for me is that it was only Defoe who really underperformed. To anyone claim that Defoe scoring only 4 goals isn't him having a bad, out of character season is ridiculous, especially after he scored 18 the year before. Crouch and Pav didn't really contribute but for me, they played about to their level. They just aren't good enough.

If Adebayor getsjust 15 league goals, with VdV behind him having a similar season to last (13 goals), I think we will be competing all season long.

You claim he is your 5th choice striker, but only due to whatever fallout he and Mancini had. Dezeko and Balotelli haven't proven themselves in the Premiership to the extent that Adebayor has, and with Tevez likely to leave I'd say Aguero is your only striker who is a whole lot better than him. Maybe at the end of the season one of Dzeko/Balo will have 20 and I'll change my mind, but not yet.
