Yeah - my old fella sold our childhood home on Abbey Road Hollin estate probably about 8 years ago - think he got £60k for it - they now sell for north of £125k and rent at £800 pcm - if you can save up a £25k deposit whilst paying £800 pcm you can finally get a £100k mortgage and probably halve your costs

when I clearly state. I am 100% anti Farage and his band of loons, proud of the immigration and diversity that this nation is built upon and think we have a duty of care for refugees all around the world.

what I object too, is people saying we shouldn’t have a limit on numbers (in a roundabout way) and on that basis, are saying we should let as many people in - I wish we could - but the reality is population growth is a real problem and with increasing immigrant numbers that is also a real problem - you can have that view without having to tread so carefully as to not ‘come across well’ - it’s a worthy discussion as it does affect people’s livelihoods.
 
I understand that this thread has been brought, in some means, to a basic personal level, but what are the strategic impacts and implications to western values, ie. influence (money) transferring from the west to the likes of Russia, China, Iran, etc.? Do we think that hostiles to the west are not already funding the Taliban and educating/inserting their leaders?

There is absolutely no way we could have stayed. We had no say in the peace agreement. The US told the Taliban we would all be out. If we had renaged we would have been slaughtered, both as an army and politically.
As I said we are just a US puppet.

Oh no. Humans inhabiting Earth. This country have ‘coped’ with thousands of immigrants for years.

And thank fuck, my Iranian doctor is good at his job, my Syrian dentist has helped me keep my teeth healthy, my Iranian lecturer at university helped me to where I am today and a Syrian group of children I taught at one of my old schools showed me more determination, love, gratitude and appreciation from children than I’ve seen before or since in my career.

There are real people behind these numbers people are banding around on this thread who will add great value to this country, and I hope they open some minds of the backward, racist, outdated, insular minds that inhabit parts of this island.

It has, and always will be, a fuedal state. The tribes fight for whoever pays the most and they are very, very good it. War is a way of life in Afghanistan and it has been for centuries.

The Russians found out not long ago, like all invading armies before them, and now NATO are finding it out too - there is just no way to win a war in Afghanistan.

Such a tragic waste of life. It's time all the troops were pulled out.

You don’t win a war, you have to instigate change, which takes time. Until a few days ago, Afghanistan had a generation of people who had taken on western values but was limited to certain areas. it would have taken much longer to bring in the tribes and lead them away from the Taliban rule. We weren’t prepared to enter into another generation, that, IMO, is the mistake.

You've missed the point. Refugees might have been a better description. The government hadn't planned for this. May be it should have, but it didn't. We will have to cope with it.

You are right if you accept we are a puppet. We, and many others have a real say. Maybe Brexit had an affect but surly we could have had a chat with our European partners?

There was no appetite, maybe down to COVID, but it was a cowardly way out. Just look at Johnson’s body language.

To confirm, we are just a puppet who bow to whatever the USA want.
