Air fryer/Slow Cooker vs Oven

We’ve just been away and the fridge/freezer was one of the only things we left running. It’s 2 years old or so and cost 3p an hour. That’ll be 5p in October, meaning £1.25 per day, £40 a month.

Peanuts on its own, but some people won’t be able to afford it.
I probably madd the right decision in turning it off in that case!
What happened is I'd see stuff reduced and buy it to put in the freezer....then I'd see other stuff reduced and do the same (and although I tend to eat healthy, a lot of this was processed food anyway). Ad infinitum.

I just shop a bit more sensibly and running this standalone freezer just for ice cubes just isn't worth it.

Also, does anyone use the 'sous vide' function on their Ninjas?

I remember when these first hit the market a few years ago and the chefs had them on Saturnday Kitchen (not the Ninja but another brand) and they mentioned this.

^^ It was the Thermomix they used and cost over £1k.....

We have one.

It’s that useful, we’ve taken it on holiday with us to a holiday house (9 people).

It is eye wateringly expensive and I did a double take at 1st, but it’s ability to do a range of tasks - chopping, grinding, grating, guided step by step prep & cooking instructions, built in scales, let alone cooking …

It can’t roast is about the only thing… hence a recent purchase of an air fryer…

Oven has a big advantage in the current crisis………you can turn your radiator off in the kitchen, or wardrobe.

If you can buy fresh produce often and cheap enough not to use your freezer it makes total sense and will be better for you.

I doubt people have the time to do that universally.

Just buy food you can cook on the hob. Electricity is the expensive one for us, we only do hob/crock/stew pots and stuff that can cook in a pan.
A pressure cooker pan will further reduce the amount of energy you use without needing to buy expensive gadgets. You get get one for 35 quid from Argos.

Anyway, I got myself a rice cooker today, mainly because my girlfriend has been nagging me to.

Yeah, absolutely.

I usually use the bones from a Roast Chicken to make stock - blend vegetables and enhance with 'flavours from South East Asia' (I mildly spice it up....add garam masala/chipotle depending on how frivolous I feel).
This will last me a week of lunches and doesn't take long to warm up if busy at work (I work mainly from home).

I lost the passion for cooking some time ago (it's not something I tend to do whilst living alone and my tiny kitchen isn't really conducive for that).
Evening meals I just tend to cook up a chicken fillet with salad....not all all adventurous atm.
But yeah....turning the oven on for just one small fillet seems daft currently.
Also, the hobs are those old school electric plates that take 10 mins to heat up. Useful for cooking properly (god I miss a gas hob....)
