Air Traffic Control failure across UK

A looney/conspiracy theorist I know on Facebook just posted Katie Hopkins’ view on this, and why it happened.

Gave me a proper giggle. Absolute crackpots.

First bit correct.

Without going into it too deeply as it's a part of the system that I'm not completely au fait with. There may have been a corrupt flight plan that the "system" didn't like. As I said earlier it may well be the "system" performed as it's designed to do under those circumstances. Without knowing in great depth (I don't), how the flight planning perameters are set up, how the "system" is designed to cope with "rogue" plans, how such plans are identified and the actions taken to resolve and issues caused, it would be merely speculation. I'm sure when the report is published it'll be the subject of a separate thread on here-not!!

This takes me back to the ash cloud problem a few years ago. I was working on a cross channel ferry company and we were just about to sail from Dover to refit. All our crew had been put on leave or sent to work on other vessels except for our small skeleton crew. The engines were fired up when the captain came over the tannoy to tell us the government had requisitioned our ship and we were to sail directly to Calais to pick up a full load of passengers. Happy bloody days! I ended up working seventeen hours straight, which broke all the legal rules but we had no choice as we barely had any crew. It was a tumultuous time until the flights resumed.
