I disagree, he is a great lad if you see him with hart, micah and the rest he isn't miserable. I just think he isn't progressing and he is lacking a hell of a lot confidence in himself. I think he is an average player and will probably always be a mid-table decent team regular. He may prove me wrong though, he's only 22..23?

25 in July. In my opinion you don't see many wingers move up a class in ability after 25 or so, can't think of any examples of the top of my head. Happy to be proved wrong though if anyone can name any.

It's funny hearing non man city fans talk about AJ, 95% think he is class and is being treated unfairly at City with his lack of opportunities, Mancini being unfair blah blah blah. Personally I don't rate him and think he'll end up in the Stewart Downing pile of wingers that could have been the dogs bollocks at one time or another, but sadly didn't realise their potential.

I'd argue Ashley Young has got better over the last three years, and despite United trying to fool everybody he is another youngster, think he is 28 this year?

Johnson has talent, but it needs to be nurtured at a club where the expectation levels are not based on having to win every game, or competing for trophies.

I think Spurs will be just perfect.

I proposed this on the Bale thread a while ago.. AJ + Ade + Cash for Bale

I think quite a few proposed this deal a while ago...

But player swap deals are rare enough, I can't think of a single example involving two. This deal would rely on all three players wanting to move club, all three players wanting to play for the other club, all three players agreeing personal terms and wages, both Redknapp and Mancini actually wanting the players in question, let alone the deal being sanctioned by the respective clubs. Not to mention agent's fees, negotiations on how much cash changes hands.

It's a lot more complicated than AJ + Ade + Cash = Bale. While I'd love it to happen, it seems very unlikely.

How is that an Ouch? Tolmie makes a fair point, maybe Johnson just doesn't have the mentality for a team that should be winning trophies every season but apart from his poor attitute, to me his lack of pace and his tendancy to drift through games after a couple of flashy step overs and a few pointless shots in the first 5 minutes means I wouldn't consider him a good target for Spurs, even at a cut price. No idea what kind of wage he is on either.

He wouldn't get close to disloging Bale or Lennon so he would not come here to sit on the bench either.

Edit: Fair point on Young as well, but arguably it could be the players surrounding him improving in quality as opposed to him? But of course you could say he'd earnt that privelage by showing good form, it's an interesting one. But probably not for this thread.

And for every few dribbles he made, there are 10 times he couldn't be arsed chasing back when he lost the ball, 10 times where he couldn't be arsed to close down the full back and 100 times when he shit out of a challenge

It's bizarre watching Johnson now compared to back then after we signed him. Like two different players, he was full of ideas and tricks, now he seems to have one trick that most defenders have sussed out. The old footballing cliche for a young player is "Wow, imagine how good he'll be in a few years" but quite often they seem better when they're younger than how they eventually end up.

Its funny, when Bale burst onto the scene I remember thinking, decent player but he's no Adam Johnson, but unfortunately as was evident at the beginning of the season, he started to believe the hype.
I still reckon with the right attitude and commitment, AJ is still potentially a better player.

Micah got told by Vierra what he had to do and listened, maybe AJ will do the same, if he does he will be a good player and able to hold his own against the rest of the squad, hasn't delivered consistently enough for me needs to get his head down and work hard. (God I am writing that but saying it Mancini style in my head)

On one of the videos on CityTV (can't remember which) he held up his Premier League Winners medal before stepping on the coach, and all he said was "bye"

it sounded very ominous to me, and to be fair he deserves it the medal, he has been a cracking player, whilst still learning and earning well, he deserves first team football and would stroll into 90% of the teams in the top flight.

if he goes i say cheers adam, you've been great, good luck

The fact that AJ could not force his way into the team towards the end of the season is down to the fact that he has not taken on board everything that Bobby has told him. As we all know AJ has the ability to become one of the best but there must be something wrong behind the scenes.

I do think that we are monitoring the Bale situation very closely and one report has said that any potential deal could well hinge on us offering both AJ and Adebayor.

The problem for AJ is that if we do get Bale and he stays, not only does AJ have to fight him for a starting place but he will have Nasri as well. If we don't go for Bale then it may well be Younes Belhanda and he is the best young player in France at the minute.

I honestly think that AJ could be used as a makeweight in the Bale transfer
