This guy was an absolute genius - it was disgusting what was done to him, but sadly it was acceptable in his time. Thankfully we live in enlightened times. I am extremely pleased he has been officially pardoned.

Why are you pleased ? What about the hundreds/thousands of men of the same age and sexuality that still have a conviction to their name ?

It's an interesting academic point, but given he was prosecuted by the Crown it is surely appropriate that he is pardoned by it. In fact to split hairs he's not been forgiven, or anything, by a royal -he's received a pardon from the Crown - a clear distinction imo.

What would your suggestion be, given the prevailing set up?

de niro was never in borstal. He went straight to Strangeways. An' GDM is far too cultured to ever fall foul of any legal system!

Not crafty, he just has the best lawyer money can buy. That's how all the upper crust stay out of pokey.
(In the interest of ric and me not being sued for fasands an fasands of pounds, this post does not imply nor tend to suggest that GDM is a crook....just that he has never been convicted)

No. Only this crime. Any others can be reviewed on their own merits.

It's still used today. Although in Britain I think it has to be administered on a voluntary basis.

As it was in the '60s

Turing opted for chemical castration rather then incarceration.

Not that that makes any difference, of course.
