Aldi or posher supermarkets

Never been in an Aldi. Every time I drive past my local one there appears to be a load of grey tracksuits surrounding loads of prams filled with fat kids all smoking.
Nicotine patches for kids! Now there's a niche market

Steaks from Aldi are superb, £3.99 for rump, £4.99 for ribeye, £5.49 fillet. All have the marbling necessary for a juicy steak, are brownish, not bright red which means stressed meat, and tough as fuck. The butter is great and tinned fruits are the best of any around IMO.
Jams and marmalade are great too, although the fruit and veg is average and no cheaper, same with bread and cakes.

Per steak or for 2?

I shop in Asda - I dont actually think Aldi is that much cheaper and the quality is definately not the same.

No, per steak, but a very good size. Miles better than anything from Asda, although we do shop in Asda for the bulk of other stuff.

A lot of people are duped by these so called cheaper supermarkets, but if you went into a Tesco or Sainsburys and stripped out all of the branded goods like Heinz, Uncle bens, Kelloggs, McVities etc... And all that was left behind was their own value ranges. Tesco beans, tesco cornflakes, sainsburys custard cremes, then in essence you would be shopping in an Aldi or Lidl, because that is what they do. And then on the back wall they have a line of fridges with a decent deli selection of meats, cheeses, seafood...etc

Next time you go to one of the big supermarkets, don't buy any branded goods and just get their own range and see the difference in price, you will be surprised.

The UK supermarkets cannot match Aldi or Lidl on veg, but I was looking at some of the veg in Lidl for our xmas dinner and it had come from places like Turkey and Namibia. What's all that about? You can grow carrots right here in England!!

Steaks in Asda are 2 for £7 and they are a good enough size for me.

50/50 now between Aldi and Tesco
Aldi in Sale had some great stuff for Christmas,Gluewein,Baileys type drink.

Need to work on their bread though for me.

You can still save loads of money shopping in one of the traditional UK supermarkets. Just steer clear of branded goods.

Heinz baked Beans = 68p
Tesco Baked Beans = 32p
Aldi Baked Beans = 24p

The thing I find is that people buy stuff from Aldi that people normally wouldnt buy because its cheap and of ok quality so they keep getting them and rave about how cheap aldi is.

Bratwurst being an example. I reckon hardly anyone who goes anywhere but Aldi gets Bratwurst but I reckon most Aldi shoppers do and then say "£4 each for these at the christmas markets and I got 8 for 79 pence".
