Aleksandar Kolarov - 2016/17 performances

Apart from lack of pace, I thought he looked fine last night, by comparison to most fullbacks .

Again, no charging forward aimlessly booting the ball into defenders' legs. He played with a brain I have seen no evidence of, in 5 years watching him. I'm so sick of that obvious overlapping run, in every situation, taking up all the options, leaving half the pitch empty just to hoof the ball straight at the oppo defender. Usually when I see it, I want to kill him.

Last night he picked his moments. So far his one footedness has not stopped us playing & he is trying as hard as he can rather than loafing around (which also normally makes me want to kill him).

I can accept stuff going wrong here & there, if a player is giving 100% & also doing plenty of stuff right. Bigger tests to come, but on his performances so far, I actually like him.
 
My concern is when both Zab and Kolarov starting in the same 11. Both struggle with pace and look a step slow when you ask them to defend in space against wingers with pace. Other parts of their game I really like but top teams are going to have a field day when both are starting.
 
I know he is not everyone's cup of tea, but he has been superb so far this season. He looks hungry and certainly seems to be part of the team. No matter what people think of his ability he must be a total professional as otherwise he would be on his way. Can't drop him at the moment playing too well.
