thought it was quality and not numbers was our objectives now.

Jo had 23 appearances last season.
SWP, fan favourite yes but extremely ineffective, had 18.
Adebayor had 12.
Hell, Wayne Bridge had 7.

Point is, quality needed? Of course. But you really need a HUGE amount of quantity, too. It's a ridiculously long season. Why'd the Rags win the title (aside from referee help of course!)? And get to the CL final? AND the FA Cup semi-final? They don't really lose a beat when they're playing Smalling or Fabio or Gibson (he's shit but stay with me here) or whomever.

It's a numbers game, and even though this lad is probably not nearly as good as a David Silva, sometimes you're better off playing him rather than making one of your better plays play 3 times in a week.

Hopefully if we sign this fella it'll be a lesson to the fans that having a 25 million backup and a 15 million backup for the backup just doesn't work in real life.

We have got a long season and probably need to rest some of our players a bit more than we wre able to last season, but someone like Jo's appearances need a fair bit of qualification. From memory except for the odd Europa cup game most of his appearances were fairly fleeting substitutions.

he started away at Fulham, away at Arsenal, and away at Juventus, off the top of my head. There will be vital games for everyone in the squad.

Spoilt?

Of course we are, have you seen the squad we have now? Of course I would have been biting Fiorentina's hand off a few years ago....but simply put I don't think he's better than what we have. What is the point in making that signing?

EDIT:
Internet went ballistic on me, and since then someone put the quote from Roberto, if he really rates him then I will trust him I guess. I still don't see him making a difference, but I suppose we haven't thought about his mindset, maybe he'll be satisfied with being a bit part player

Agree. Rather give Weiss a go. Or keep SWP

BlueCityfan.

Care to elucidate.

Are you able to give us chapter and verse on this?

I'm looking for something that explains your anal-y-sis.

So far you win the June shit poster of the month. Which is really a hard competition to win.

I love the first line of this article.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.footballitaliano.co.uk/p6_1_6271_cerci-edges-closer-to-man-city-move.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.footballitaliano.co.uk/p6_1_ ... -move.html</a>

Fiorentina's Alessio Cerci is close to completing his €7 million move to Premier League giants Manchester City.

Cerci moved to Fiorentina last summer on a free transfer from Roma, and it now seems that this will be his only season at the Artemio Franchi.

City gaffer Roberto Mancini has been a long-time admirer of the young Italian winger, and now it looks as if the 23 year old will be leaving the Viola for the Sky Blues.

Interestingly enough Cerci's performances last season left enough to be desired, however a strong push towards the end of the season saw him become a key player in Fiorentina lineup.

He ended up scoring 7 goals in the process, which seems to have been enough to attract significant interest from Mancini who had labelled him as a 'player to watch out for'.

Cerci would be the second forward to quit the Viola in recent weeks, as Adrian Mutu recently completed his move to Cesena.

This summer will most certainly be one for change in Firenze, where Alberto Gilardino, Riccardo Montolivo and Mario Santana all look to be headed for the exit as well.

To be honest we need to bring in more than 1 winger. 1 who can play left and 1 who can play right side. Cerci if he signs is offering competition to Johnson. I would expect a bid for another winger to come in as with Dzeko we need to put in quaility crosses and sadly the players we have at the moment on the wings fail to do that. Wait and see what else comes our way during the window but I would love to see another centre midfielder to replace Barry and Paddy V that will offer competition to the other midfielders at the club. A centre half if Boateng goes to compete with Kolo and Lescott for a place beside Kompany. Left back I think we are ok with Zab and Kolarov and even Cunningham if he gets back to fitness. Also for the home grown players he will be held onto.

The guy looks like a good addition to the squad to me, we are very short of people in that position. I can't see him starting every week but remember when Balo and johno where out we where crying out for someone likes this.

Mancini said it was good when we got Johnson back. So, backup/competition for Johnson, is he going to be much worse than Johnson? 7m is cheap enough considering he's 23 and can't really be written off yet.. Much to dislike about this deal? Not going to be blowing any minds but is it actually a bad move?

Surely we don't need back up for Johnson, we need a player who makes sure that Johnson is the back up?
or a player to give johnson the kick up the ass he needs

This guy can't even make it to the Italian national team. And he is nearly 24. Please let this be a joke!
