Alex Scott new host of Football Focus

FF is not a particularly good programme any more. It was, many years ago, but nowadays it's all too much talk and not enough action.
I ditched it because I was sick and tired of how formulaic it had become: Presenter faces camera and waffles on for a while. Presenter then introduces a couple of studio guests and waffles on with them for a while. You are then shown an interview with a young player who is making his way in the game and he in turn will waffle on about about how proud he is to play for his current club, and about growing up watching his idols play, and how he never thought in his wildest dreams that he too would one day play in the same stadium. The dreary monologue goes on for a while then it's back to the studio where presenter and studio guests then waffle on about this young player and wax lyrical about him for a couple of minutes, then back to another interview and yet more waffling between all involved.

FF is just Loose Women for football fans.
It’s too scattergun and superficial for me. Say what you want about Soccer Saturday but they have 3 hours of it pre match and might give up to 15 mins on each club (or half an hour for certain clubs, but that’s another discussion). And the quality of the punditry is no better.

Wooden and robotic. No thanks.
A few names who you would’ve preferred instead?
I ask because, although I know what you mean, I think a lot of presenters, especially in a new role, will have an element of that.
I watched her as lead presenter rather than pundit on the England friendly on bbc4 last night and thought she handled it really well tbh.

I used to love MNF (not got Sky now) when they talked tactics and formations, genuine insider knowledge and very interesting for the average fan as it gave a great insight on why certain things happen at certain times in a match.

Presenting is a different skill set, so being a decent pundit doesn't necessarily translate. Does anyone remember John Barnes presenting Channel 5's football coverage?

She seems to get overvalued as a pundit precisely because she's a woman. If a bloke came out with the same stuff she does, they'd be labelled as dull and pointless. Points out the obvious, keeps it safe and adds next to nothing. She's the female equivalent of Ashley Cole.

There's worse about, much worse but she's far from being good. Is she any better as a presenter? No idea but if it stops her being a pundit give her a shot.

Chappers is by far the best sports presenter, his football and nfl coverage is unparalleled.

Two comments (in bold) within posts trying to show you’re not people who think it’s the 1950s or that you don’t care about gender, that actually show you’re making an opinion about her because she’s a woman and comparing her to men, or that it’s a surprise that women know their stuff about football.

No the point was they are there because of what they do and not their gender, you chose to read that another way.

Why pick Ashley Cole to compare her to? Just cos they were both Arsenal full backs?!
Fully agreed on Chapman, but to expect every other presenter to be at his level is a very high bar indeed.

He is a dying breed, when he retires or when they retire him as they did on NFL show, there will be no TV football journo/presenter left to watch. MOTM is not worth watching anymore with those dour faces for whom a football punditry greatest achievement is connecting three players with a triangle. So it is only left to wait and see if Dan the Man is going to football-focusize NFL shows.

Should have gone to Sir Garth Crooks. Although Scott deserves it for being marginally better looking :)
Marginally.
Thank God you're not in charge of VAR as your marginal offside could be as much half the length of the pitch.
