They keep trotting out the line of Johnson’s majority which the public gave him a resounding mandate to lead and that we should never ignore that. That was December 2019 where a lot of water has now gone under the bridge. He hadn’t lied about illegal parties then, he hadn’t lied about oven ready brexit deals, he hadn’t thrusted them cost of living and spiralling inflation onto the electorate. He hadn’t told the British public about a tax hike, he did lie about how much money we would save from being out of the EU and how we could spend it on the nhs.

They’ve lost control, their polices are a cause and effect of what we see now in the country and we are not even at the worst of it yet.
I think that’s a key point and one that backbench politicians already appreciate but one that the public hasn‘t fully grasped.

The result last night would normally lead to a reshuffle and an attempt to bring all representative voices into the tent, but that won’t be allowed to happen. Those on the right will continue to point to that election result to justify their continued drive to the right.

It’s no longer about serving society but serving their political ends and ensuring that when the country does finally return to the centre, the centre will be further to the right than it ever was.

‘Why would anyone be drawn to a leader manifestly unsuited to govern, someone dangerously impulsive or viciously conniving or indifferent to the truth? Why, in some circumstances, does evidence of mendacity, crudeness, or cruelty serve not as a fatal disadvantage but as an allure, attracting ardent followers? Why do otherwise proud and self-respecting people submit to the sheer effrontery of the tyrant, his sense that he can get away with saying or doing anything he likes, his spectacular indecency?’

The above is not from an op-ed piece on Johnson and his supporters. Am quoting from Stephen Greenblatt’s recent book on Shakespeare, someone whose ‘plays probe the psychological mechanisms that lead a nation to abandon its ideals and even its self-interest.’

Read it a couple of weeks ago. The History Plays are obviously still relevant.

As an aside, this is also interesting:

I think the problem the left have is he’s implementing what you’d consider left policies (furlough, support for cost of living for the vulnerable, the extra money to support those on income support during covid, extending school dinners) and they really are in a tiswas about it all - so have now all become right leaning economists worry about the interconnectivity between government spending and inflation and inflation and the cost of living - when this is exactly what they’ve been demanding for for years! I presume without the parties Johnson would be the pin up boy for the left? Worlds turned on its head.

The reason for these nominally left wing policies is to mitigate the disastrously self inflicted wounds to the economy primarily because of the dogmatic implementation of Brexit which has led to people having to choose between heating and eating.

1. Brexit is a disaster that will continue to unfold. No logical examination of the facts can be made to judge it a success. Oh and it is far from done as Johnson and chums like to claim. Vaccine, maybe I’ll give you that one but I doubt very much that Johnson had much to do with it. He was too busy writing a book. The people being sent to Rwanda are asylum seekers not cadgers. This, more than anything else, shows you up to be an ignorant twat.
2. How very mature. See above.
resorting to abuse.
1-0 Boris.
thanks x
