Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

YouGov's latest poll shows that Boris has widened his led on Labour. Now, I know that YouGov was formed by a former Conservative campaign manager, and the results of the poll are a Daily Mail exclusive, but doesn't this just show the problems we have? He is Teflon, and most of the electorate just turn a blind eye and let him get away with whatever he wishes. His party should be in the absolute political wasteland yet are ahead in the polls and it says something very sinister about our nation that they are.
YouGove are one of the more accurate polling companies. I had no idea who founded them, but their predictions are generally reliable.

I'm as frustrated as you are regarding their support. I don't know how low, how corrupt, how dishonest or deceitful the tories have to become before it starts to register. It's like a collective amnesia at the moment regarding the state of the country compared to how it used to be not too many years ago.

Deceitful really is an accurate description of our current leaders. I don't know how many people swallowed the austerity line based on the 'there is no money left' note the tories based their austerity programme on, waving it around in front of the cameras after they found it, that has had a huge impact on so many lives.

How many of those that do believe it and use it as justification for all the cuts that have taken place have no clue that it was a traditional joke, left by the outgoing Chancellor for years, and started by Winston Churchill in the 1920's.

'Sorry old boy, I'm afraid I've made a bit of a mess of things. Have fun clearing it up', and notes of that kind, have been seen as a bit of a joke and not really serious for generations of politicians for decades.

I really don't understand why an average person would vote for an eton educated individual that bullshits their way through life, thinks they're beyond criticism, and waves away with a swat of the hand everything and anything that may be even slightly critical of their 'Born to Lead' motto.

They do get annoyed, though, when their bullshit is questioned.

I don't but I have an idea how it works.

Lets take flags for the purpose of this explanation.

2 years ago, nobody is really that bothered who flies a flag or who doesn't, we see them at state occasions, on top of churches and town halls and with names on them at football matches. People respect the flag, its our flag, but we are British and the flag doesn't loom large in the nations consciousness in the way it does in America, because we have other symbols of state.

The governing party decide to start doing interviews , speeches, with flags in the background. Its never been done before because people generally associate the flag with the state.

The other parties continue as they have done by not speaking from in front of flags. Nobody has ever done it before because it has never been that big a deal.

Media conclusion: the ones who do not speak from in front of flags are unpatriotic.

The overwhelming majority of British people love their country and feel patriotic towards it, but now one party looks patriotic and the other looks unpatriotic. Therefore by doing absolutely nothing different to what has always been done the party that does not stand in front of flags looks bad.

The media then report it as the party that has done nothing different is now unpatriotic. The overwhelming majority of people who consider themselves patriotic now think ...hell yeah, the unpatriotic cunts. I am patriotic so I am voting for the party that stands in front of flags. The party that has done what has always been normal and speak without flags now feels pressured to speak from in front of flags.

The media then report that as the party being cynical and doing it just for votes, because after all they are unpatriotic as we told you last week. The overwhelming majority of people who are patriotic think the cynical fuckers, that's right, that party have never stood in front of flags so they are they are taking the piss and i am not voting for a party that is taking the piss out of me.

The media then report that the party that has just started standing in front of flags is disconnected from the voters and the overwhelming majority now agree, yes they are disconnected because they have never stood in front of flags and the other party is patriotic and i am patriotic so i am voting for the party that has always stood in front of flags.

As the vast overwhelming majority of people will never realise that neither party ever stood in front of flags. it is forgotten and the media never report that.

That is how a simple thing like standing in front of a flag wins elections. It convinces people that the others are not what they are.

If you really think about it, it is genius. It is genius because it deflects away from things that should matter.

Add to that .... make an announcement that Government buildings will 'have' to fly the flag whether they want to or not (despite the fact that they could do so since the legislation passed by the Blair / Brown Government) and you are seen as being 'more patriotic' ... however association with a flag is not patriotic is nationalistic.

The unfortunate fact is that people vote for the interests of Capital rather than there own interests because they are subjagated to barrage after barrage of propaganda from the capitalist owned right wing media, which is controlled by those with capital.

People vote for what Murdoch et al tells them is there interests.
Less than 10% of the country reads a newspaper or even watches the news daily so this doesn't quite make sense as a fact.

The greatest threat when it comes to propaganda or anything like that isn't the media but rather the daily trench warfare on social media. The left is just as guilty when it comes to their participation in this which is why they sit in a bubble and still believe they can walk elections just with morale superiority or calling people stupid.

Personally I don't identify really with any particular politics, I just know that they are all a bunch of tw@ts. If I had to vote tomorrow then I wouldn't and I won't be voting in the council elections either. None of them want to do good for the area, they are only interested in getting one over on each other and then they will disappear.

For me I just want something normal which is politics where people are invested in and businesses are made strong but which party represents that?

This is the most dangerous thing that is happening in UK politics, apathy kills democracy.

I have my own thoughts on why so many people are like this and it is not a go at you mate, but i do believe this disconnect started with the expenses scandal. People started to think ALL politicians are in it for themselves and I think that is really unfair. I am sure there are some, but i am also certain most are in politics because they truly believe they can make the country better and that goes for MPs/politicians of all political hues.

There is a perception that there is an elite who live in a bubble and all they do is squabble, but that is because of the way politics is reported. It is easier and more "newsworthy" to show Johnson and Starmer at PMQs squabbling over minuitae than it is to show a parliamentary committee where MPs work across party lines for the common good.

Politics itself is broken in this country, too many people vote for what they do not want rather than what they do want, which is systematic of FPTP system. I was always sceptical about PR but i am now firmly of the opinion that we need huge constitutional reform, a resetting of the electoral process, a move to PR and a move to a federal UK with devolved power away from Westminster and hopefully that will engage people more in politics and people will have to chance to vote for rather vote for against.

Apathy is a killer because those that are not apathetic tend to be older and there is a huge swing towards conservatism as the voting age increases. To be apathetic at this time is a tragedy because the country is suffering badly. One wonders if somebody who is currently apathetic will ever be interested in making a change.

Brilliant post. When we add it to my comments on the think tank, earlier, those that do not fly the flag are currently being described as leftist, Marxist, wokeist and remoaners, and something that no conservative will move towards, thus cementing and widening the current chasm that exists in the nation.

Regarding the failed trade agreement with Norway: according to the brexiters this is the fault of the EU. How? Norway isn't even part of it.

The Brexiteers never allowed facts to influence their nationalistic, "they need us more than we need them" rhetoric.

details details .............everything that goes wrong is the fault of the EU - get with the programme buddy and get on board with the true patriots and statue protectors.......

How quickly did this disappear from news.
Nothing to do with the EU............. there are seemingly only two sets of believers in Brexit - billionaires or the gullible. A quick check of their bank balance will tell them which bracket they belong in. I really don't think they knew what they were doing in any of these negotiations and right at the outset it was being pointed out that we didn't have enough trained negotiators to do it.....remember when Frosty the Showman was hailed by some on here as a professional and capable negotiator who would get things done? Fucking joker who's pissed off to hide in the Lords as soon as he could

The piece from the Times is from today...... this smacks of someone he is going to come out of the what is it 7 or 9 enquiries into him, his cabinet and party very badly and is looking for reasons to get out whilst he still can....

Beat me too it.

Sunday mirror reporting Gove is the chatty rate (surprise...) and Boris is going to reshuffle cabinet to get more sychophants in.

shocked I tell you I am shocked - well not really - also - another "religious Tory" with an interesting background in hiding his past and and raunchy lingerie retailer......

Can't wait for Andrew Marr to ignore this and spend 20 minutes accusing Starmer of being homophobic because of his office colour scheme...
