Why is anyone surprised that a man whose arrogance and laziness have been a long standing features of his make up, turns out of to be out of touch and arrogant as Prime Minister.
And, lazy, obviously, his number one defining characteristic.
He was lazy and wanted to be given special treatment at school:

He was lazy and a liar as a journalist:

He has consistently lied to cover his shortcoming whilst a politician.
He was lazy and considered to be possibly the worst Foreign Secretary ever, with no grasp of detail before he was Prime Minister:

He was too lazy to attend five Cobra meetings (unheard of for a PM) in the lead up to an era defining epidemic:

And now he knows that he is too lazy and ignorant to function as a Prime Minister without the bloke who does all the thinking and day to day decision making for him (again, unheard of for a Prime Minister). Hence, he feels it is unconscionable to consider what others, from across the political spectrum, consider to be the only - and correct - option.
The country really needs to consider how such a charlatan has not been weeded out as totally unsuitable for office years before getting anywhere near power.
Perhaps, in the era of Trump, people are just thankful that he isn't as bad or horrible as that farce of a human being. But it is almost impossible to argue that he is not the least fit - in terms of attitude, ability, honesty and intelligence - Prime Minister of the UK in living memory. So much so that it is not even close.
