So nothing to say about people flying in from here there and everywhere 'untraced', just people in dinghies? Interesting choice of username.

That is a good point, I wondered when somone would bring that up.

But the thing is this: if there is a big hole on the side of a ship and a small hole on the other side of a ship and you only fix the big hole. The ship will still sink.

You need to get complete control of the borders or not bother at all. We chose to not bother at all. We couldn't, we'd have starved for a start as much of our food is imported. Maybe after all this is over there needs to be a big re-think on this idea of Globalisation, not least due to climate issues: should we really be flying/transporting so much beef, veg etc. around the world when we have the space and the climate to cultivate it here?

By-the-way, nobody has told me how they would have stopped the dinghys coming.... just trying to twist my words and put other arguments forward.

My username means something important to me, that is all.

Just because you may have voted for a party that is ok with open-borders (in 2019) doesn't cut it when there is a pandemic the following year and it is ongoing and the borders need to be secured.

A quick google will show you Starmer - fully aware of the impact of the pandemic has recognised the need to close borders and has asked for the borders to be shut - as he has asked for other things to happen and when Johnson finally sees the light Johnson pulls the Capt Hindsight "gag" to try and cover the fact he is late to the party all the time and when it comes to borders he twists the truth with and answer that we import food from abroad so its a daft idea when he knows damn well Starmer is saying tens of thousands of PEOPLE need to be stopped - but hey a born liar and cheat will always lie and cheat eh?

That you have a problem with immigrants?
You give the government a free pass on the ' big hole' where border checks are in place i.e Italy at the beginning and India more recently but aim your gunboat at desperate people in dinghies ... I see.

P.S. the reduction in the %GDP for the foreign aid budget was the correct call when the pandemic hit. Charity begins at home. When there are no homeless people in the Uk they can make massive contributions abroad, but until then, I think even with the reduction, its too much.

Which part of their history in addressing poverty and homelessness or the data on homelessness over the last decade, gives you confidence that the Conservative government, particularly this one, will be interested in investing in policies that help people off the streets and into a life where they can support themselves?

No.

Answer the question: how would you have stopped the influx of asylum seekers (mostly in boats, but not exclusively) during this global pandemic?

I bet you don't even try - you will just go back to the planes thing again and try to label me something I'm not.

Quite simple really. Double up their asylum centres as isolation units with regular testing. They can then stay there until their asylum case is heard and then signposted as appropriate.

I can't argue with that!

I shall compose an e-mail to Priti Patel forthwith, excellent idea.

That's some web you're spinning. There's me thinking during a pandemic taking advantage of being an island and monitoring points of entry where you know who's coming in and from where was a no brainer.
By your logic there was no point in trying because we are being overrun by dinghies.

I assume you were typing this whilst the issue was discussed further: Alan Harper's Tash proposed that asylum centres become isolation units, with regular testing and I have agreed that is a good idea.

I might say (type) daft things at times, but if somone suggests a practical solution, I am not close-minded.

I think its a good idea and to move on, I will concede that locking down flights from India was done too late and its one of many cock-ups made by the Government this last 18 months.

How would Labour of handled covid-19 though? We will never know.
