Alexis Sanchez

I'd be surprised if we're left in a position where people will be wondering what could have happened if Sanchez had come.

By the sounds of it Pep wants a goalscorer, and the way Txiki and co. got Danilo so efficiently, barging Chelsea out of the way and having Pep convince the player, makes me think there'll be a similar speedy readjustment on this front and someone will be signed.

And that someone should be pretty exciting judging by the calibre of player we've gone after so far.

I just don't think the upper management are going to allow themselves to be in a position where Pep could say "I told you we needed one more" in June.
You mean a plan b
Everybody knows transfer deals can go tit's up that's why you have a plan b

mbappe has madrid written all over him

pep isnt as big a draw as the money of psg or the certain titles mbappe will win at madrid....

i hope we havent messed up our transfers again by going for the unobtainable....lets hope sanchez forces it our way but if psg get neymar that may also sway it for sanchez to go there

for 50m, its probably 50-50 whether to keep him or to let him go, at 70m id take it all day. but all these are rumours, who knows whats really happening.
Fair enough and having read your previous posts it explained what I was asking. But if true, it confirms you as a selling club, which I think was the gist of your argument in favour of keeping him - so you wouldn't be seen as a selling club by future signings. So I don't suppose it's a favourable outcome for you either way. Have to say, from our point of view I'd be disappointed, and you would have achieved your aim of not selling to a rival. However, if we land Mbappe...

After all the euphoria of a 300 million transfer window being suggested on here it's looking a bit more prosaic.

I said that even without Sanchez we have the best attacking players in the PL. Someone pointed out that we are not trying to compete with United, Arsenal, Chelsea at al. Our rivals are Bayern, Madrid and Barca.

In which case Txiki is going to have to up his game. When was the last time we signed a Bale, Neymar, Suarez, Lewandowski calibre player? Probably Kun and that was before Txiki arrived.

Regardless of the feeling over this transfer, I'm not buying that. I call bullshit.

We have the league's most proven ever goal scorer, and jesus. Every man and his dog were after that twat.

There are other avenues, as well, I'm not having it.

If Sanchez goes There, good for him. It's clear arsenal won't sell to us.

But if we are going to use his non signing as an excuse for our inability to score goals, then I'm out.

Dead right.

Pep has indicated it's not about strikers anyway.

Sanchez is an easy, old, uninspired signing, who could up our scoring rate from a support position & no doubt he 'could' make a big difference to our title chances. He wouldn't be cf much he'd be in place of others.

But I have always been happy with the idea of him going abroad. My main concern is he doesn't land at rags or Chelsea.

Never felt comfortable about this.

Sounds like our plans are going up in smoke! Get mendy tied down for fuck sake city we can afford to piss about a bit with attackers but we simply have to nail down these defenders. Let's face it it's all self inflicted the money we've spent on just above average defenders is frightening.
Can't argue with that bit tbh.

Hes part of the only arsenal team that didnt get top 4 for 20 years so as good as he is, its not the end of the world if he leaves. Other players will step up.
That was because the rest of the team was piss poor. There's only so much he can do in a team of 11 when everyone else isn't trying. Even with the constraints he managed to be arguably the best or second best player in the EPL last season. That speaks volumes. There's no way to justify loosing him. Yes you'll get your money but that's precisely the same way the likes of Spurs get doe for handing their "Bales" to the Madrids of this world.

I wonder if Pep has belled him yet and told him to stand his fucking ground.

Let's have it right, you don't turn down Bayern fucking Munich cos you only want City, then go and sign PSG.

That would be moronic as fuck.

It might just be an easy way out for him or he might just believe Arsenal won't sell him to us

I'm not having this 'wages' argument guys.

These fucks have millions in the bank. That much money they'd never ever be able to spend the ****. What good is 'more money' to them? There's got to be a point where it just becomes utterly inconsequential to them.

Surely the footballing prestige / achievement outweighs something you already have far to much of?

no matter how much you have, you'd be crazy to play for half of money you can get somewhere else. And you feel absolutely nothing emotional about either of them - it's just a job.

I did want us to keep him for one more season, he is our best player and its disappointing to lose him, but if its true that hes prepared to go to PSG just to get away, then there is no point, its not a footballing decision and its got nothing to do with CL, to swap the premier league for the french league means hes not driven by ambition so it changes the picture for me.
