Alexis Sanchez

Sorry, don't get your point. Maybe I didn't make it clear.
I didn't talk about high wages. That wouldn't be ANY problem for Arsenal to find a buyer for any of that trio.
It was about missing out on transfer fees 1 yr before end of contract as the fees would be too high for any buyer
- which isn't really the case here.

I was pointing to Wenger's statement from yesterday.
I was simply making a similar point about us winding down player contracts, being unable to sell our players for a transfer fee because our wages were higher than competitors.

As regards clubs not being able to afford high transfer fees in the last year of contacts. We would still want Sanchez no matter how many years he had on his contract.

The market determines prices. Transfer prices have rocketed this season across the board.

As a player's contract expires, Clubs try and pay lower fees to take advantage of the failure of the owning club to convince the player to renew their contract.

Arsenal and Wenger are just trying to put a positive spin on their own failures.

It's inconsequential what gets said on here

Lemar seems to have become a fixation with Arsenal fans. Is he that good? I can understand some City fans interest in Sanchez after all he has been one of the best players in the Premier league for some time, and a player we spent one Summer chasing (when he went to barcelona from Udinese) but Lemar? He's probably a very good player, but I don't recall him from the Monaco tie City played with them. The standout players I remember were Falcao for a fabulous goal, Mbappe, Silva, and Mendy. If you were to go back t the aftermath of that game, you will find that a lot of City fans were genuinely wowed by Monaco's performance at City, particularly the individual performances of Bernardo Silva and Mbappe. It is so impressive that City went straight out in the Summer and bought Bernado Silva. I know it's easy with a cheque book, but so many times I have seen some young players have an incredible game against City, and seen some other club buy them. It's an indication to me, that City are a really well run outfit. Other fans think it's all money, and mercenaries. And of course the money is a huge part of it. But we also do a lot of things right football wise. (And some things wrong as well!).

I must be missing something, but I don't see how Premiership clubs are allowing one of the best players in our league to escape their grasp in Riyadh Mahrez. Wasn't he Player of the Year 2 seasons ago? I thought he was nailed on to go to Arsenal, as he nearly joined you last season.
As ever, this country is suspicious of talent that goes with temperament. Mahrez, Payet and Nasri are the latest examples of players who don't seem to attract any interest from the PL. I cannot believe those players couldn't significantly improve Everton, Soton and the like. In fact, they'd probably improve a couple of teams above those clubs mentioned!

Arsenal only have themselves to blame in all this, time and time again you let players enter into the last year of contracts and hand the advantage to the player. The whole footballing world can see what a class act Sanchez is so why didn't Arsenal get a commitment out of him 12 months ago? Sanchez has openly looked thoroughly pissed off for the past twelve months-he can see clearly that Arsenal wont win the league or CL anytime soon , if he wants agitate for a move can anybody really blame him with that stubborn twat of a manager you have? This is his last chance to actually put some serious silverware on his sideboard and the top top players just dont let that chance pass them by.

Arsenals biggest mistake was giving Wenger a new contract and sadly it will bite them on the arse big time, if Wenger had left and a new manager brought in then Sanchez leaving would have been a far easier pill to swallow for the fans, new broom and all that.
You can't force players to sign contracts. I am sure I have heard about contract discussions with the Ox and Sanchez going back months and months. It's probably nor incompetence but the symptom of a club that's struggling against its rivals. It stems from lack of ambition from Wenger and their board, and now their best players are not committed to spend their entire careers at Arsenal. It's perfectly understandable from a human point of view.

If he does ask for a transfer – then Arsenal should let him go... not doing so is like seeing some bloke who's missus has told him she's fucking off, but they beg her to stay - embarrassing themselves in the process.

I think if she was on a 3yr contract and wanted to join another bloke she just would have to ask her bloke and if he said NO
she had to go on loving him for the last year as professionally as a partner should be.
;-)

I know a few old Arsenal fans really pissed off and apathetic. Same old same old respect Wenger but think he is stubborn and should have stepped aside. Despite this they don't believe Arsenal will sell Sanchez to City but hang on to him till the end of his contract which would be worth 50 mil if they get champions league. The meltdown if Sanchez comes to City this transfer window will be tremendous.

I don't know. They were were bought into the Premiership. premiership clubs aren't shy of buying foreign players. We have foreign coaches, foreign owners. Either mahrez is not as good as I think, or there are other issues. Nasri is quality. I think the papers have really damaged his personal reputation. There will be plenty who will knock him, but maybe only 0.01% of people who contribute are qualified to comment on his personality, but hundreds do

You cant force players to sign contracts but it speaks volumes that it happens time and time again at Arsenal., more fool them.

But the perception is it's as admin cock up...they just forget to offer the player terms. I think it happens because Arsenal are not competing for the league title and haven't been for a long time.

It's almost as if the players didn't really want to go there in the first place, but the clubs they would really have liked to sign for, were unable to do the deals.

Like us, being subject to the corruption of FFP, instigated by the likes of that **** Wenger & his cartel chums & bent UEFA pals.

But they didn't get Champions league with him this season so that's flawed logic. Better that they get rid, get the 50m banked then use that money to supplement other funds they have to buy a replacement that might help them get Champions league. Far better having a happy player committed to the club than one who is there under sufferance and could affect team morale. This game isn't about individuals it's about a 'team' and it only takes one rotten egg to sour the whole lot. That will be a much bigger dent to their champions league aspirations.

Chelsea knew it with Matic, Leicester know it with Mahrez. 'If' he wants to come to the mighty blues then they should cut their losses and look for a better alternative.
