Here we go, review No.2 - Beth Orton is not a artist i've ever heard before but she has produced a nice album here - opening track 'Stolen Car' is the stand out, a folk/electronica upbeat track mixed with her lovely vocals - great track! it is her voice that carries this album all the way through and in some respect she is like a female version of Van Morrison but just lacking that inspiration , 'Central Reservation' is also another good song - unfortunately there are a few bland and unforgettable tracks so just doesn't quite hit the spot and surprised it made the top 1000 - nevertheless, it was a nice easy listen.

Worth mentioning, on my YouTube ventures i stumbled across a track called 'She Cries Your Name' she did which is not on this album - it is superb.

Anyhow, Give this a go and score out of 10 by end of next week

This placed 982 out of the Top 1000

6/10

Have a good weekend Blues and best of luck for the Champions League final!

It's not often that I have to give up on listening to anyone but for this I made an exception. Her voice started to really annoy me - a bit nasally - and sounded the same in each song, plus I struggled to catch a lot of the words so couldn't get hooked in. I'm sure she's done better stuff, but I could only listen in small doses. The songs seemed pretty bland to me but then it's not really my genre (whatever genre it is).

2 / 10

Iv never listened to the album, but I'm willing to give it a shot, purely based on how good 'stolen car' is.Heard it years back but never followed her music up.

4/10

Stolen car is ok (does it sound a little James Blunty but better? - not sure), and I like Couldn't Cause Me Harm and Stars All Seem To Weep (certain bits of the album are a bit Ibiza chill out which I quite like).

The in-between bits are relatively inoffensive but I can pretty much leave them to be honest.

May look a relatively low score again but I am slightly wary that if I start out with higher marks I will have nowh to go as and when something blows my socks off - but I'm trying..............

Lyrically not bad, though I had to read along as it was hard to understand her at times. Pass in Time was pleasant enough, the rest, meh. Not a fan.

Listened today and, yeah, I can kinda see why Stolen Car was the (only) hit. I actually like her voice but when the voice overwhelms, or rather, dominates the musicianship, and the melody is an afterthought, it’s not going to be my cup of tea. And the lyrics are kind of the run of the mill “open my heart” stuff we’ve heard from countless bar singers either at 2 am Sunday morning in an actual blues bar for lonely singles or 10 am Sunday morning when puttering around the house in your slippers. Meaning this should only be consumed with scotch or coffee. I have no predisposition to play anything other than Stolen Car again, especially Devil Song, which I enjoyed a bit more the first time I heard it, when it was called “Gold Dust Woman” and Fleetwood Mac sang it. No BPM are fatal, and if she’s the next Van Morrison, I never fucking liked Van Morrison either. 3/10.

Seems Talking Heads was always going to be a tough act to follow.
Need a few more scores blues. Plenty of time.

A couple of really good tunes on this album, the rest is a hard listen tho..
Trailer park was pretty much the same but the good tunes on that her first album were in my opinion really good ..
Unfortunately 5/10
