All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

To be fair, @surrounded by idiots hit the nail on the head with me.

Tried my best but I couldn't stick it out - I'm going to have to file this one away with the likes of Morrissey, either I am absolutely bang on the money and there is nothing there worth listening to or I just can't hear the talent and the rest of the world is right............. :-)
No, I’m definitely with you.

Generally, the albums I like are when 1. You can clearly hear the individual instruments; 2. You can hear the lyrics the singer is singing and 3. There’s a sense of melody.

There may very well be a decent Talking Heads album out there, and I’ve heard decent songs by them, but this album didn’t deliver for me on any of the above counts. The production/mix was way too muddy for my liking.

Think thats the Talking Heads, they’ve done some decent songs, but whole albums not so much.

Yeh - even if I don't like a particular genre of music, I still pick a decent melody / beat etc, I just didn't detect anything worth listening to in it............

Eno produced it, which is why it's atmospheric/muddy.

To be fair, they put down all the rhythm tracks first -- Franz and the percussionists laid out grooves, and then they built the string and keyboard instrument lines on top of the them. Very unusual way to make an album. It's also one of the reasons its so highly rated -- because its construction was unique. Also they polyrhythms were unusual for their time -- Gabriel experimented with them around the same time (see album III) -- and of course they came to the fore more distinctly several years later when Paul Simon did Graceland and I'm sure on a large number of other records I can't recall off the top of my head.

Try the live version of what I think is their very best song period, on Remain In Light or elsewhere -- from SMS . . . starting at 1:16 especially.

Interesting. I don’t have any ENO albums, but I’m a big fan of a lot of Daniel Lanois-produced albums. Lanois worked a lot with Brian Eno and “muddy production” is a term often bandied about for these records. I like a bit of atmosphere too, but I always feel like I can hear what’s going on (Yellow Moon, Oh Mercy, Lanois’ own For The Beauty of Wynona). However, this is simply not the case for Remain In Light. Just my two-penneth.

Cheers for that as a lot of bands do come off a lot different live to their recorded material.

Although, it still ain't my bag (far too busy and frantic?), although I very much enjoyed the backing singers, they were spot on.

To be fair though, I gave it the full 7 minutes plus............ ;-)

Clearly not one of the more popular songs on the album but I think it's great. Amazing production with such an original sound. i love all the background sounds. i also find the whole lyrical concept fascinating and eerie...being able to change one's appearance by concentrating!! I might give it a go...
Anyway...some guy's made a vid to go with it...

I love those lyrics too. Tune’s pretty interesting as well; best of the not-first-four-songs IMO.

I completely get that not everyone gets into this or any type of music at all. I’m sure @BlueHammer85 will randomly select some other albums in this thread that I’m not fond of.

However, I promise to save any hyper-charged flames I have in my system for any potential Radiohead record that shows up :)
