Andres Iniesta

for what its worth I was told at the final by a blue with a player connection that we have already signed Iniesta subject to CL qualification

I know I know... but he doesn't normally come out with tales like this and I don't normally claim any sort of ITK status and still don't

probably bullshit but......

i was told the same thing tonight pal.
was at a wedding my mates boss big city fan he told me about previous transfers being correct, and he is ADAMANT iniesta is signing for city. and i mean ADAMANT.

If the stars aligned, the gods conspired and the oceans parted allowing you to somehow sign Iniesta you had better get on your hands and knees and kiss Silva's toes for convincing him to leave his starting place in the best team in the world.

You have to be a City fan to believe it is even possible to sign Iniesta. No City official, coach or management personell will be stupid enough to even ask Barca to sell Iniesta to us. FOr Iniesta to go to another team, any team, it would have to be the case that something terrible happened and Iniesta decided he wanted out. In such a situation, the whole world would know something terrible has happened and Iniesta wants out.

Only in such an improbable scenario, will Iniesta choose to leave his boyhood club (i.e perhaps the best team ever) to join some new upstart somewhereelse.

I mean Imagine for a second that City was the best team in the world, and Micah the best right back in the world. ANd CIty just won the Prem and CL mesmerizing anyone and everyone in its path.

Then imagine the absurdity of thinking Micah has signed on to join Juventuss the next year. That is the equivalence of what we are talking about here. You'd have to have blue tinted contact lenses and eyeglasses on together to even imagine this being likely. could it happen? Yes anything can happen, but the chances are so slim tat it is irrational to consider it.

Some might quip "well I didn't think we would get Silva a few years back and we did!" But realize that is a different matter entirely. All along the notion that Silva will move to a bigger club was always a possibility, so even if WE didn't get him, it was likely someoneelse would, The same is not the case for Messi/Xavi/Iniesta/Busquet. These are Catalans! Playing for the Catalan team. Who happen to be the best "team" perhaps ever.

And I put team in quotation for emphasis, while these guys could be the best players at their positions (i,e, Messi) it is quite possible to find others who could do some things better, but as team playing, no one comes close. WHy would anyone want to leave Barca? Really Why?

Barcelona would have to be on the verge of insolvency to sell him.

Considering they just pocketed 110m by winning the CL, that isn't likely to happen soon.

I wouldn't even want to break up the Barca squad. If someone ends Barca's dominance, it should be on the pitch and not in the transfer market. Taggart would wank himself silly if we used our resources to break up the team that just humiliated him. Not to mention that we would go down in the history books as one of the most hated clubs in history for breaking up such a beloved partnership.

No, no, no.

Well, the statement above is valid and makes sense, provided Micah didn't want to leave the PL.

BUT...
What if Serie A was the best in the world, and what if his best mate, who he dreams of playing with again already played for Juventus and told him great things about the club and Italian league.

What if Micah felt he had achieved everything he could in the PL and wanted to measure himself against the best players in the world in Italy? What if Juventus offered him a contract better than he could ever dream of? And what if Manchester City then told Micah that "we love you, and we always wll, and of course we want you to stay, but we would of course not stand in your way if you choose to leave us."?

And what if City already had a replacement for Micah in line, a Manchester born lad, who spent his youth with us but then moved to Spain and was now considered to be one of the best right backs in the world.

I'd say Micah could be on his way in such a scenario and the same goes for Andres. It's possible, but maybe not very likely.

It wouldn't surprise me if a deal with Iniesta has been in the making since last summer, and maybe we would have seen him here a year ago if Barca managed to get Fabregas back then. They didn't, and the Iniesta deal was put on hold.
This time though, it looks like Fab will definitely go back home which would allow for Iniesta's departure... to us.

Speculation I know... but where's the harm in a little bit of positive thinking? :)

-- Mon May 30, 2011 6:51 am --

Just imagine....

Reading around the place and from what Tolmie has said it seems that an offer for Iniesta has been placed and in place since last summer which still has yet to be rejected by Barca. If they were adamant on keeping him why not just decline right off the bat?

Makes you wonder if they are just waiting for a younger version in Fabregas... imagine how good he would be playing for Barca??

I know its a stretch but it kinda makes sense?

As the OP suggested.

And one more thing; how interesting can La Liga be to the likes of Iniesta really? They have two games a season where they actually have to play their best squad and put in an effort, the other 36 games are pretty much just the same old walk in the park.
I watch a lot of Barca and more than often, you don't really see them bother too much and I don't blame then as they don't have to.

He's Catalan born and bread. His friends are Catalan, his family are Catalan, his club is Barcelona, currently the best team in the world, and he's in the starting 11. He's been there since 1996. Talking about signing him is ridiculous. I've heard some people talk about him saying he'd love to play with Silva. Well its more likely that he was thinking of Silva coming to Barca. Just like Xavi and Messi, that club gave him everything. Made him what he is today and gave him his break. He has no reason, by any obscure stretch of the imagination, for him to move to Man City. He is something money can't buy.

I can't remember who said it but if you somehow pulled it off you would indeed be universally hated except perhaps by Real fans for breaking up whats called the greatest team that ever played through financial power. You'd have effectively "stolen" one of their home grown heroes.

Edit:

If you watch Barcelona they rarely look out of sorts. They love what they're doing whether its a CL final or a standard La Liga game. They love their team mates, their coach, their city, and their league. Its really grasping at straws. Pro footballers want to win, why leave the team that wins everything?

i dont think sheik mansour really cares who he upsets to be honest mate!! why would everyone hate us anyway??? if we put an offer in and barca accept it and iniesta accepts the contract offer then surely the fans should hate them as well?? sheik mansour wants the best players in the world at the club and all he has done at the minute is place an offer which i dont think i need to explain to you is normal practice in the football world.
