Angelino

Hard to see why Angelino and Maffeo can't replace Kolarov and Sagna as backup fullbacks for next season. Almost like for like tbh, as Maffeo is defensively solid like Sagna, while Angelino is an attacking upgrade like Kolarov is at least supposed to be. (in theory)

I'd have no hesitation in putting Angelino in the team ahead of kolarov.

we might even get a decent corner!

Maffeo might get done physically but Angelino looks the real deal for me, he is definitely technically and physically ready in my opinion.

If Angelino spends another season in the youth team it will be a season wasted, he has reached a level that can only be furthered by playing senior football now.

Arsenal have done their bit with Bellerin, why can't we do the same with Ange?

Maffeo was able to step up from playing fullback for the U18's to playing CB for the U21's, I'd have no worries at all about him physically at RB in the premier league. Maybe the odd player might get the better of him physically, but no more so than any of our other fullbacks imo.

In some way I kind of hope Vieira gets put in charge for the last couple of games because I think he will give the likes of Angelino and Barker a game or two.

In only takes one decent showing and they are in the squad next season saving the club a lot of money in the meantime.

I would love nothing more than to dispose of Sagna and Kolarov, and promote these two as reserve fullbacks. As for the issue of the size of Maffeo, he is a very tough character and reads a game superbly well. I wouldn't have a problem with him as Zab's reserve.

In terms of Kolarov or Angelino, I wouldn't hesitate to promote Angelino. He is tougher than Kolarov (who lives off the pretence that he is a tough footballer by scowling now and then), I would argue he would be at least as good going forward as Kolarov, and he is probably the match of Kolarov defensively.

Of course this is probably nothing but a dream. If MP retains the job I honestly can't see either of them getting a look in. Still I can but dream!

Next year I'd be tempted to loan him out. The step up in quality from the EDS to the Premier League is huge, as we saw with Pozo. I'd try to loan him out to a lower PL side who'll give him a chance.

Yes the step up is huge but I never understood the hype around Pozo. Every time I've seen him play for the EDS he hasn't been anything special. For me Angelino is the best player we have in the under 21s and could indeed step up - why not give him the opportunity this season? We have nothing else to play for.

I think Ambrose and Barker should also be considered, perhaps Bryne too, but I do think loans for those 3 would be a better option.

Would love to see this happen but in reality Kolarov will probably leave and be replace by another 20 odd million pound signing. Contrary to what Khaldoon says during his end of seasons interviews the club seems very reluctant to give youth a chace

I think that we are all guilty of over hyping young players at times and sometimes they just can't perform their same game. The marking is better, the league is stronger and quicker and the players can be nervous. I don't think Pozo is the greatest player in our academy but I also think we played him in a role he isn't best suited to. Young players do need a level of protection but sometimes youngsters will take their chance and never look back. There's no set method or approach to it. You'd expect more consistency with experience and I think with the level we are at we can't afford to allow players that time to prove themselves. Having said that, we aren't getting the quality from the experienced players so what's the harm in giving game time to players like Boadu, Angelino and Barker? They have energy, skill and talent and we've seen some poor performances in the centre of midfield, a lack of pace out wide and poor defending from our left backs...

Lopes and Denayer need to be given an opportunity we should then loan some of the current crop with a view to them coming in next season depending how they perform. They know each others game and they are a lot better than most out there, and one of the best sides in Europe.

Pozo was a diamond. Then got injured, then got injured again. Hasn't yet regained the level he had as a young kid.

We will have to see if he regains his top form, but if he does, he will be just as big a prospect as the others.

you lot are living in a dream world, if you think two kids can coming waltzing straight into a hopefully title contending club from the depth of the eds. ffs they havent been playing against costa or hazard types, they`ve been playing against young players like themselves, young kids with little experience, and playing a level of football that hardly has any physicality

In the squad for tomorrow

Interesting. Pretty much deserved if true, but I guess 6 players are nailed on regarding the bench, and if Pellegrini starts with Dzeko and Aguero, it would leave us with no forward solutions from the bench (Boyata, Sagna should already cover the defensive options as subs).

Not that I expect any young gun to play a part tomorrow; it would be strange before Monday's game.

Fantastic news to hear that he is in the squad tomorrow.

If we are clear winners tomorrow I would like to see him get some game time, but I do reckon Wilcox will have been in Manuel's ear persuading him not play considering te youth cup final first leg is the day after.

This is what the academy is for to progress to the 1st team, so if he gets on today will be amazing for the lad.
