Angelino

I like him. Good technically, fast, energetic and always looks for a short pass and the return to make space rather than just holding on to the ball and looking for other players to make space for the pass.
Tho last night he didn't have any problems he will need to improve defensively. A large part of being a good defender is positioning so hopefully Pep can help in that regard.

Would be very surprised if we didn't see Angelino vs United. Think Clichy is likely to start though, but could be at CB so whether Angelino starts too is anyone's guess.

He didn't come under much pressure defensively v Bayern & that is the area we need to know about as a fullback. But he showed he's a good footballer & he also has a good shot on him, so absolutely no reason he can't contribute to the first team, or couldn't have done last season.

I'm positive Pep will develop Angelino into a top quality full back and I for one would have no issue with Angelino taking Navas' minutes this season as a winger either. That's providing Sane is signed and is in front of both

Really excited for Angelino and would love to see him get a chance this season. Just please offload Kolarov

I reckon Pep is gonna keep him as back up all along the left side, should get a decent amount of chances this year.

He's got it this kid, knew that the first time i saw him play, you can just tell from his Technique and demeanor.

Positioning comes with experience so we might as well give him 20 minutes against Sunderland and Stoke same with Maffeo. I'm really hoping they cement their place in the first team as I don't fancy another season with slow full backs

Surely suits Pep's style of Full backs though?

Don't know.

But there's a bit of a myth about Pep not wanting his fullbacks to defend I think. In one of the books it mentions him giving Alves a bollocking & telling him that first & foremost he's a defender.

I've followed Angelino for years & he has always been playing catchup defensively imo, but, he has actually caught up, each time. When he first moved up to the EDS he was getting stranded, but after a couple of months I thought he was decent defensively. Not Stuart Pearce, but decent. I have no idea if he can step up again, or if indeed he has already, as v Bayern, everything happened on the other flank with Ribery.

For NYC he was pretty shit tbf, (as a defender) aerially a target as well as on the deck & he looked short of pace, which surprised me. On the ball he looked as good as anyone though.

But v Bayern, he looked at least a yard faster to me (as did Maffeo) & more like the player he was in the U18s.

Personally I'll just wait & see how he does at fullback, but I hope that isn't what we judge him on, as he is a proper footballer & should be able to play an important role in the squad somewhere, same with Denayer.

In general there is a misconception about Pep's offensive gung ho football, I guess. I mean, yes his teams usually batter the opponents tactically which normally reflects on the scoreline as well, but he considers keeping the possession and not letting the opponent to have the ball near his goal as defending, I think he sees a clean sheet in the same manner as Mourinho does, but thankfully his methods to achieve this goal are much more pleasing to the eye, at least in my point of view. :)

Or people should just have a look at his away games in the CL; especially in the knockout phase (but not just that, even Arsenal beat Munich in the group stage). He went there to basically defend the result, and didn't really risk anything if not necessary.

Would be a cert for first team BUT big question mark about his weakness with his right foot.
Has an excellent attitude, good at pairing up with left midfield partners (Brandon Barker was lost when Angelino moved to the States) and plays with confidence with an eye for key passes and goal opportunities BUT has not progressed in his midfield awareness when he moves inside.
Pep will have him constantly practicing with his right before he even considers him as a replacement for Kolarov (who is also too one-footed for Pep) - more likely to use Delphi at left back.

Positively, if there's one manager that will spot he might be better off playing in another position, it's Pep. I agree with your overall statement though, Pep wants his defenders to first and foremost defend. The attacking threat they provide at full back is crucial to his overall game plan but he would never want to see it lead to a detriment in their defensive work. They can do the attacking part of the game but will need to get back every time - that's why having some younger players is crucial to bring their energy to the squad. Similarly, with central defenders he wants them to a) be good defenders and b) be composed on the ball and excellent at passing so that it can launch attacks.

So exciting on the left-hand side and still so young. There's no reason why he can't be our left-back version of Bellerin.

Great great showing so far. One footed compared to who? The existing incumbents, no chance. Already got an end product, quick and smart.

He's a much better footballer than Bellerin, and he'd be more of an attacking threat. Not as fast though.

I had strong doubts that Angelino wouldnt be able to step up but the last two game have started to convince me he can. He was quality today in his short time on the pitch.

He still has a good way to go but it would be fantastic if he could bridge the gap from eds to premiership
