after watching him against Bayern i was wondering if we do need a leftback afterall
He didn't come under much pressure defensively v Bayern & that is the area we need to know about as a fullback. But he showed he's a good footballer & he also has a good shot on him, so absolutely no reason he can't contribute to the first team, or couldn't have done last season.
He's got it this kid, knew that the first time i saw him play, you can just tell from his Technique and demeanor.
He's a cracking footballer.
I'm just wondering if he will actually be a left back in the end though. His real talent is on the ball & making runs off it.
Surely suits Pep's style of Full backs though?
Don't know.
But there's a bit of a myth about Pep not wanting his fullbacks to defend I think. In one of the books it mentions him giving Alves a bollocking & telling him that first & foremost he's a defender

I've followed Angelino for years & he has always been playing catchup defensively imo, but, he has actually caught up, each time. When he first moved up to the EDS he was getting stranded, but after a couple of months I thought he was decent defensively. Not Stuart Pearce, but decent. I have no idea if he can step up again, or if indeed he has already, as v Bayern, everything happened on the other flank with Ribery.
For NYC he was pretty shit tbf, (as a defender) aerially a target as well as on the deck & he looked short of pace, which surprised me. On the ball he looked as good as anyone though.
But v Bayern, he looked at least a yard faster to me (as did Maffeo) & more like the player he was in the U18s.
Personally I'll just wait & see how he does at fullback, but I hope that isn't what we judge him on, as he is a proper footballer & should be able to play an important role in the squad somewhere, same with Denayer.
So exciting on the left-hand side and still so young. There's no reason why he can't be our left-back version of Bellerin.
