Another big clearout ahead this summer!

there is no need to change the squad...yes there are people that need to go but its the likes of benjani and the rest of the dead wood that need to be sold.

the main first team squad (those that play regularly and that are on the bench regularly ) are good enough to get us 4th and more.

Under MH the balance was wrong too attacking and wide open in defence

Under mancini its the complete opposite...too negative and defensive and he has blunted our attacking potential

its tactics and balance that needs to be achieved...not a complete overhaul of the squad

yes we need a couple of additions to the squad but not a major overhaul.....we do this we go back 2 steps......

we need
1. top class striker who plays on the shoulder of the last man (we have two big lads who are good in the air (ade rsc) and ade is decent at leading the line as well. We have tevez who is a box player but can also run the line and we have bellamy (though his age and injury record might start to hamper him sooner rather than later) who has pace to burn and gives us an option in a number of postions.

2. A box to box midfielder.....we all want Jonno to be that man but he is going to be out a long long time and even when his injury is right it is going to take him months to get match fit as he wont have played in 2 yrs

3. strenght in depth at left back.....bridge is a decent player but oterh than him we have noone

other than that i would say that is it......people couild argue that we need a right back but we have zabba and richards and both these are good enough at present

please stop using that one off freak result as a poor attempt to try and argue that we are a lot less attacking under mancini.....

In the first half at sunderland we had 2 shots on target....darren bent had four on his own!!!

there are lots of other examples under mancini where we have had very few attempts at goal and where we have shown very little willingness to create chances.....

Ireland is not a playmaker. He's an attacking midfielder who gets in the box and scores goals. The playmaker pulls the strings like Schneider did last night and like Alonso does.

We need a playmaker and a box to box midfielder.

Totally agree with the first post but we do need a playmaker. Im thinknig of a cross between Foe (RIP) and Benarbia with Barton's drive.......no idea who that is though!!

irelands eye for a pass is superb so he is creative.....but the two you mention are in a different league at present to players we are going to attract

Do you seriously think Mancini sends them out with instructions to play negative and not to create chances? Has it crossed your mind that our players, when they are playing their little one twos with our fullbacks and centre halfs and passing it square and backwards, that they are simply passing the buck and haven't got the confidence, or the technical ability, to play the ball forward to feet?

Or maybe they are wanting to play it forward and the players in front of them aren't finding space or don't want the ball.

Either way, I'd look beyond Mancini if I was you. It may not be all his fault.

-- Wed Mar 17, 2010 7:40 pm --

We could get Schneider, and very well might do if there's a change of manager in the summer.
