In the first half at sunderland we had 2 shots on target

how many did we have in the second half?
6 or 7 maybe

i cannt believe that you are watching city and think we are an attacking team who are playing to their full potential in this particular area.

A serious question and not one meant to cause offence but do you watch other teams play....i do....on sunday for instance i watched the utd fulham game before the city game......the way utd attack and the amount of chances they create is by far superior to the way we are doing it at present....same at arsenal and the same especially with spurs......none of these teams (especially utd with the exception of rooney) have far superior attacking players/option to us...but they play without 3 defensive midfielders who sit no more than 10 yds in front of our back 4...even when we have the ball as they are clearly under instruction to do so...this is continually leaving the 3 forwards isolated against the opposition back four and oppsotition defensive midfielders.

2of the chelskii goals were down to individual brilliance (tevez was the only player in the chelski half practically when he scored), the thrid a penalty (caused by a chelski player mistake) and the 4th a breakaway against a team with 9 men.

the goal against sunderland was a wonder goal by an individual......

we cannt keep relying on moments of brilliance from the likes of tevez, jonno and bellamy. It could seriously hamper our ability to win games.

our attacking play is slow, predictable and unadventurous....the strikers are feeding off scraps for huge chunks of games....

All Mancini really needs is a couple of midfielders who don't mind receiving the ball in tight areas, and who can pick a pass. The other areas of the pitch could all be improved on, but i don't think they need overhauled.

We have strikers who can score all sorts of goals, we have fast, skillfull wingers, we have decent athletic full backs (perhaps the second weakest area of the team), strong centre backs who can pass it a bit, and a solid keeper.

I agree with this. We have top class strikers (yes Adebayor and RSC *are* top class), decent centre halves and 1 decent full back. We are desperately needing a decent right back though imo. Micah is not it and neither is Zab, who is useless going forward.

But as well as that we need a midfielder with some height! We still lose the loose ball too much in the middle of the park because too many of our players just aren't able to compete in the air for the ball. Sweep, Ireland and even de Jong (despite his strength) are just not tall enough. It's OK having some midgets but we have too many!

We only have Barry (and he's not massive). Viera fits the bill, but he doesn't have any pace to get there. Kompany would do, but he's a centre back now.

We get away with this with the better teams who pass the ball, but this is why we struggle against crap like Stoke who hoof it into the midfield all the time.

In answer to your question, I watch an unhealthy amount of football.

In a way, you have made my point. If you watch United and think "Why can't we play like that under Mancini?" then you'll go mad. Mancini won't play that way, we can see what his style is and it isn't two wingers on their correct flanks getting crosses in (how many headers has Rooney scored?). I'd love us to play that way but it isn't going to happen, and it probably won't happen if Mourinho comes either. United play like Hughes liked us to play but look what happened there!

Spurs and Arsenal have the exact players we need in our midfield. Modric, Fabregas, Huddlestone and Kranjcar would all get in our side as they can pick a pass and are technically gifted. I have no problem with our attacking players it's the supply line from central midfield I have a problem with.

I totally agree that our three central midfielders are too close to the back four but I wouldn't say they are "clearly under instruction" to be there. If he doesn't play Ireland, which I agree is a debatable decision but the lad is terribly low on confidence and out of form, then De Jong, Barry and Zab are all of the same ilk and not one of them seems comfortable breaking to support the attack. Again, if Mancini has sent those players out and told each one of them to 'sit' then he is clueless, but I'd be amazed if that's the case.

I also agree about the tempo but it's the players that have the responsibility of setting that. Could it be that the players aren't comfortable playing quick balls to feet yet? Will they ever be?

You were making your point well without resorting to Johnson's moment of brilliance. Come on, it was only an inspired display from Craig Gordon which prevented us winning that game.

I don't think we are a great attacking force at all but I'm not lumping all the blame at Mancini's door like you.

If Mancini stays, I think the following will go...

Toure, Onuoha, garrido, sylvinho, RSC, Adebayor, petrov and SWP

here's my thoughts on the matter;

OUT

1. garrido-not good enough.

2. toure-this man has not justified his transfer fee nor does he justify his weekly wage, get him punted! (if possible)

3. viera-he is a great player (was?) but we need to look to the future.

4. ireland-it pains me to say it but superman will not take us where we want to be. at best I can only see him as a bit part squad player.

5. SWP-wage rise? he's lucky to still be getting a wage given some of his performances this season. like ireland he will not take us where we want to be, sorry!

6. sylvinho, bojinov, caicedo, jo, etuhu and benjani-no reason required as it seem's quite obvious.

UNDECIDED

1. logan and vidal-I dont know enough about either to properly comment altough I think there 1st team chances will be slim. thoughts?

2. petrov-I still think he can be a handy squad player (carling cup games for example)

3. santa cruz-we will never get back anywhere near what we paid for him so for that reason alone is it worth keeping him? (I doubt many other clubs would be prepared to match his wages either) to be fair to him he has had a run of injuries and given a chance I think he could be a handy squad player (like petrov)

4. adebayor-I'm sorry but for the transfer fee and the weekly wages I want 'A FUC*ING HELL OF A LOT MORE'!!!!! he is a talent but I want it on a concistent basis, not when it suits him. we have tevez already and we will probably go for another big name striker (torres/higuan) so ade's days may already be numbered. if he prove's his worth though he could save us a lot of dosh!

5. robinho-there's part of me that never wants to see him again and there is part of me that wants to give him a 2nd chance. If robbie really really wants to be here and city are happy with his attitude then I would give it one final shot!! his talent is worth the gamble....................I think!

LOAN OUT

1. hart-I want to see hart become city's number 1 but I really think himself and us will benefit from another season long loan. it is not healthy for young keepers to be warming the bench all the time. our problem is if given get's injured is taylor good enough or do we need to sign another backup?

2. johnstone-I fear his career could be over and even if it's not then long term it probably wont be with us. however, I would send him out to a bolton or a stoke for 6months just to see what he could bring to the table.

3. weiss-I like what I have seen and I want him back at city but like joe hart another loan deal will do him and us the power of good.

4. boyata-as above

WHAT WE NEED

1. a top centre half-I have taken to the lescott/kompany partnership and I have faith in onuoha but to take it to that level above I think we need someone like chiellini of juventus.

2. left back comptetition for bridge-this area needs competition/backup but I would go for a young player, ansaldi of ruben kazan would be ideal in my humble opinion.

3. 2 creative midfielders-I would move heaven and earth to bring in sneijder of inter and gourcuff of bordeaux. one could play in a 4-4-2 with the other as backup or both could play in a 3 man midfield with sneijder sitting deeper and gourcuff just sitting behind the main stiker, perfect! can micheal johnstone save us money though?

4. a two footed winger-bellamy is not getting any younger so I would try and bring in somebody in the mould of an angel di maria or a perotti. is this an expense we really need though especially if robbie comes back?

5. a world class striker-if adebayor cannot step up to the plate then we need to bring somebody in if we are to become a 'deadly' force!! torres/higuan for example.

6. a young up and coming stiker-as backup to the others, balotelli of inter for example.

I have read all the posts on this thread and altough I fear a major overhaul could set us back I feel surgery is required to meet our owners demands. the 'majority' of the sqaud is fine but I do believe (as you have read) that we need about 6/7 better players coming in and about 10/13 of the dead wood leaving.

mancini is having to work with a few of mark hughes' mistakes and he need's the chance to put this right and that involves some leaving and some coming in. unlike many I am happy with richards/zaba as the right backs barry and de jong/barry get my vote in the holding mid role. we just need a bit of quality here and there and indeed a wee bit more quality as backup.

thats me finished.

I predict about 8 new signings in the summer, no matter who is in charge.

We need another 'keeper, a decent right back, cover for the left back, two midfielders, a better partner for Tevez, and a couple of young 'uns to top up the squad.

We'll probably clear out about 20 players.

Don't make me list them...

well thats my point....we arent a great attacking force yet we have been better (under MH) in that sense but like i said he got the balance wrong.....mancini has also got the balance wrong

AS for the clear instructions to sit and hold......i think they are...mancini has said he wants no more than 10 yds between defence and midfield when defending.....therefore when we do win the ball and play it upto the strikers there is no way the midfielders can get up and support.......and its certainly not in dejongs game to do so nor is it in zabba's game. so by picking those playes in conjuntion with each other it is clear that this (as you say) is the way mancini wants to play.....

my poiont is that playing the way mancini wants to play will ultimately lead to failing to get where we want to

ireland is short of confidence as you say....but he aint going to get it back sitting on the bench

i also agree with the mouhrinho point.....im not a huge fan of his way of playing either

i think that we agree on the main points here but I do think mancini is deliberately setting his team out to play in a fashion which means it underperforms in the sense that we are capable of so much more with just the players we have...but they arent allowed to express themselves with the instructions he gives and how he wants them to play.

I will fully admit i really dont like his style of play so i guess that is just down to personnel opinion. If he goes to fulham and plays the same way teh result will be the same (if not worse) and he will have really damaged our hopes of getting top 4

I'm with you all the way mate.

I've got a choice of trusting someone who has won the Italian League three times or to go with your tactical genius... and my vote is for you.

You make so much more sense than Mancini.
