Another new Brexit thread

You think Covid-19 will impact the UK to a higher level than the Euro-Zone?
A currency that doesnt work for all it's member states doesn't work.
They either accept shared debt or the whole construct falls to pieces with severe economic consequences. Sadly we won't escape blast damage when it eventually happens.
We won't escape the damage when the inevitable happens - but the sooner we start putting distance between us and 'blast zone' the better

The thing is some people will always vote for the same party and some voted despite their choice’s Brexit stance.

The best way to measure the public’s opinion on this is the swing in votes, which went all one way in the election.

I’m convinced it’s still just over half in favour of Brexit.
And - as a long-standing Remain advocate - I would suggest your opinion counts more than those that clearly have entrenched views

I of course include myself in that category

There are not many - on either side - that have been able to show any evidence of objectivity / balance

Well done

I’m not sure if you’ve misunderstood my point because yours makes absolutely no sense.
Maybe I did.

I can certainly say you were wrong about "The best way to measure the public’s opinion on this". That would obviously have been a second referendum.

Just for the record, brexit could have been stopped at the ballot box quite a few times but it never has.

You are just fooling yourself Vic to pretend otherwise im afraid.
But for the DUP (and maybe now they regret it), it probably would have been stopped at the ballot box in 2017.

Maybe I did.

As someone who wanted a 2nd referendum for a very long time I can safely say that’s a terrible idea without enacting the first.

I don’t need convincing Brexit is a bad idea economically speaking but for the sake of democracy it must be done.

All this crowing over the collapse of the EU is both premature and instructive.

Spain and Italy have received significant help from the ECB. As they have suffered more from Covid 19 than other EU states. That's how it should be.

Will Westminster similarly plough money into area's most affected by Covid and by the upcoming Brexit?

Labour lost 1.7 Million leave votes at the GE alone.
Some to people who wanted Brexit and some to people who didn't. I don't think that's a secret (nor that it wasn't the only reason Labour lost votes). It does seem to be people who didn't want a second referendum most keen to claim that more complicated elections are a better guide to any change of opinion from the referendum. That seems manifestly false. I'll agree that the referendum was supposed to be a definitive (if non-binding) decision but none of you can prove the electors wouldn't have delivered a different result if asked the same question again from 24 June 2016 onwards. I'm afraid "no-one I know has changed their mind" isn't exactly proof.

I'm making mistakes trying to do this watching the Rags at Norwich but I need to check you both meant these:

And - as a long-standing Remain advocate - …...
Really?

As someone who wanted a 2nd referendum for a very long time I can safely say that’s a terrible idea without enacting the first.
What on earth did you expect a 2nd referendum to do?

Really? - Yes I am a remainer and would vote remain every time. Brexit scares the shit out of me. You’ve been my ally on this thread since 2016.

What on earth did you expect a 2nd referendum to do? - reverse a result I didn’t like. I’ve realised that I was morally wrong to feel this way.
