Another new Brexit thread

Genuinely - if you cannot work out why agreeing a 3 year period of transition is not a climbdown - actually if appropriately defined it can be a big benefit - then you need all sorts of self help with regard to analysis

But, for me you have simply forfeited any right to expect people that hold different views to you to engage in debate with you.

Sorry, it is your own doing - I have explained that it is your past behaviour of deliberately twisting the words of others posters - not just myself - to mean other than what they said that leads me to seeing no value in exchanges with you - other than to occasionally set the record straight. I am not alone in this opinion.

Perhaps you will change this practice?
Why does "if appropriately defined" sound like someone is twisting words?

You say so many words it's impossible to get them all straight.

As I, and others said 4 years ago, reciprocal agreements were in place before we joined this so called trading club. Why do you think they’ll be rescinded?
People who already live there will remain covered but the same can’t be said for anyone wanting to retire there. If you have residency already you’ll be fine. Maybe that’s why some people are trying to get residency before the end of the year. It’s a case of I’m alright Jack.

I'm back in the UK - but thinking of going back out in November because of this fucking weather. I have made an appointment to see the immigration authorities to explore taking up the offer of residency that I have.

Hopefully I am doing this not just to boil the piss of a couple of narrow thinking people ;-)
And what benefit is there of residency except as a route to EU citizenship?

We are breaking International Law. Our position for best part of a century is that we do not break legally binding international commitments, our word is our bond and all that. It gives us a powerful voice when it comes to international relations.

Throwing that away over a confected row is dumb. It means other countries cannot trust us to keep our word when it comes to future agreements and that will come with a price.

Furthermore, the reason we are breaking International Law is because we signed an Agreement which we were too stupid to understand, just as we are too stupid to understand the future ramifications of breaking International Law.

Finally the IM Bill does not benefit Britain given three of the four nations that make up the United Kingdom have passed motions rejecting the IM bill and have warned it threatens the unity of ‘Britain’; so forgive if I again doubt your ‘loyalty’ to Britain or the United Kingdom given you actively promote actions that are not in its interests be they internationally or domestically.

IM Bill implementation breaks law, not the bill. As far as 'good faith' goes the following seem slightly worse than tabling a bill in (our own) parliament. In 2017 a Canada style deal offered and also during WA negotiations which the EU have rescinded - not good faith. The Level Playing Field demands we respect 'sovereignty' of protectionist block vs ours as an actual state - not good faith. EU deals with Japan / Canada and others don't demand level playing field - but for some reason make these weird demands on us at the same time as trying to impose their regulatory framework upon us post brexit - not good faith. The EU in the WA imposed a deadline of June 2020 for arranging financial equivalence for the financial services sector - they have since decided we can't discuss this until 2021 in order to retain the leverage - not good faith.
As for international law the EU picks and chooses it seems and breaks as it sees fit. The classic example is that of them funding pro-remain campaigns and interfering in our GE in 2017. Also their arbitrary decision that law and convention on International waters/exclusive economic zones does not apply to them. They also break Intl law with their ban on US Beef imports and subsidy of Airbus. The ECJ earlier this year decided it could overrule Germanys own constitutional court with regard to an emergency EU financial package.
I'm not saying we are any better in our dealings either with the EU or around the globe, but please don't portray the EU as some innocent victim of us daring to break the holy international law just because they don't like it.

The British Parliament can pass laws that benefit Britain. The EU’s ECJ can’t, as it’s now irrelevant, I think they may be getting that message. The only people upset at this are remainers who are constantly saying how the world won’t trade with us, because they don’t like it.
To my knowledge, the world hasn’t expressed outrage at us making our own laws.
What's not to like?

The UK can make its own laws to benefit the UK

Why oh why do so many people bang on about the Tories and Johnson all the time? I guess because it is all they have got as they cannot think beyond the narrow arguments they have become obsessed with.

Brexit - is not for this government or for Johnson - it is for generations - that is if we ever are able to genuinely leave

And then there's the "countervailing duty" that the EU can impose on goods given state aid, over and above the standard WTO tarriffs.
I'm not sure you fully understand conservative politics in the UK. A tory govt would cheerfully see manufacturing go under rather than subsidise it. I'm not quite sure what they want to subsidise, but it certainly won't be coal mines or steel works.

are there any mines or steel works left? Its looking like they are going to have to support car assembly in the event of WTO tariffs - can we not just restart Austin-Rover and beat the world? Who fancies a Metro or a Montego? An Ital anyone.......

Nobody gives a fuck what you do.

You can be as hypocritical as you want and no one will give a shit.
Really?

Well of course that should absolutely be the situation - but I can think of at least one person that is unhealthily obsessed with what I do;-)

You seem to spend a lot of time laughing whilst sat in your EU second home.
