Columbine had armed guards.

As someone has already said, it's about money, the likelyhood of the US changing gun laws is as likely as the UK not selling £5bn worth of fighter jets to the Middle East.

A gun amnesty is the only way....... I really hope that significant numbers of people try, the US population are just thick enough to follow like lemmings

Amnesty is the first port of call. Get rid of all the legal arms then go Armageddon on the criminals with weapons. I would like to see all those with the basic licence have to surrender their weapons for 6 monthly/annual inspections too ( serial numbers checked and mechanical soundness, I'd also like them to report how many times they have discharged the weapon.

You also need tighter border controls to stop guns getting in from Mexico and Canada
 
Tricky one this, on the one hand fewer guns would mean fewer of these tragedies. On the other hand guns don't kill people, the person who pulls the trigger does and someone like Lanza could have easily made a bomb or gone on a knife rampage instead.

Would I feel safer with a gun in my bedroom to protect my family? Yes. Would I actually buy one? No.

If you get rid of the guns it will breed a New mindset in people.
 
Armed guards in school.

So they only want to stop kids and teachers being shot.

What if the nutjob wants to shoot people at say hospital. Arm nurses and doctors?

Nutjobs can shoot anyone, so should everyone be armed like in the days of Wyatt Earp.
 
I seriously think that as we get dumber we buy more guns. The NRA is always pushing stories of "heroes" who kill people in self-defense and the dummies out there have dreams that they will be one of these "heroes". Our lawmakers are passing "stand your ground" laws in multiple states that lead to people feeling threatened by minority youths with packets of Skittles and shooting them. We're certainly not getting any smarter so I don't see much hope.
