Wenger was quoted in the aftermath of his team's defeat, claiming both our goals as being offside. It isn't the first time he's whinged about a result, of course, but he then went on to talk generally about the poor quality of refereeing in this country and on this last point we can all(?) agree, but now I can't wait for his tirade the next time he has Taylor refereeing his team, especially if the result has a direct connection with the rags own status.
What an absolutely pointless statistic.I know it's not a popular view, but some of the facts around penalties do suggest a slight difference. Since 10/11 we've been awarded 46 penalties and conceded 15. As a completely meaningless statistic, that puts us 31 in credit. Chelsea are on 23 (41/18), rags are on 16 (35/19), Liverpool on 13 (39/26), Spurs on 5 (29/24) and Arsenal on minus 2 (27/29). So, looking purely at penalties awarded for and against, it doesn't look like we suffer overly much.
I have posted these stats before. If you were an Arsenal fan who play a similar type of posession based football to ourselves you would no doubt feel pretty aggrieved by those stats. What is interesting they are one of the old sky four that th FA and refs are colluding to influence games for, according to this forum. Hardly doing a good job are they.
If refs are purposely trying to collude against us awarding us the most penalties is not the best tactic as along with sending offs these are the key decisions which influence football matches.
Apparently we should have had 8 penalties in the last three games, has that ever happened in the history of football?

I wrote an article elsewhere a couple of years ago 'examining' our penalties and of the 30 odd I looked at (and it may surprise you to know Frank that - a propos nothing - I'm a qualified referee, so I like to think I did the assessment fairly) I think there were only about 3 or 4 that were even remotely arguable. From memory I think Adam Johnson's bellyflop at home to Fulham a few years back was the only one where a City player clearly dived and there were one or two others - Bellamy at home to the Trafford Town donkeys IIRC, given by Mike Deane - that were distinctly soft, but the rest were pretty clear cut. During that time there were a great many more 'shouts' that should also have been given, but weren't, but then that's probably something true to all clubs. One of the things that prompted me to do the piece was the number of penalties the rags seemed to benefit from in games where they were being held and struggling to break the deadlock (IMO), compared to City's which (and this was pure perception on my part) seemed to all get awarded when we were already 3-0 up. Don't ask me for the results as I can't remember what they were! ;-)

Evening Exeter it does seem very much to be perception on your part there. I had a quick look at the 51 penalties awarded since 2010/11 season. 49 I identified the time of the pen and score when the pen was awarded. 35 of them were given when the score was either drawing or we were winning/losing by one goal, meaning it was an important penalty.
The highest number awarded was at a 0-0 scoreline with 13, followed by 7 at 1-0 which could possible give City a crucial 2-0 cushion.
Interestingly we have also received 11 pens against our usual rivals of Pool, Arse, Spurs, Chelsea, Utd and have only conceded 5 to them over the same period since 10/11.
Like I said I have 'lost' two pens but I think you can see the pattern.
