Lots of erroneous takes on here from people who haven't read the report.
More worryingly, in the media.

This is an important piece of the story , he did report it but what he should have done is followed up on it , that was the mistake or did he expect the police to do their jobs ?This is a significant point from the Makin Report that does not seem to have widely reported:
"In the statement, Mr Welby says he believed “wrongly” that an “appropriate resolution would follow” when he had first been informed of the abuse in 2013 and that police had been notified. "
What Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby knew of John Smyth’s abuse and when
The Makin Review concluded that prolific abuser John Smyth might have been brought to justice had the archbishop formally alerted authorities in 2013.www.standard.co.uk
Other than the Church covering it up for 20 years? No evidence of that.

I think it says that the person(s) who told him it had been reported to the police hadn't actually done so.
Exactly, same with Fayed and the list goes on. Police, for whatever reason, don’t or didn’t do their job, which is let’s face it to look after the public. We pay them. The police who initially investigated Saville were allegedly told to 'look the other way' by some high up establishment figure. I can see this being brushed under the very same rug.
In that case it should be that man who is named and shamed, welby would have presumed the police were looking into it , but he should have followed upI think it says that the person(s) who told him it had been reported to the police hadn't actually done so.
But when you are accusing popular, highly influential, rich bastards who can afford the best solicitors, I can understand why people are afraid. In that case it should be that man who is named and shamed, welby would have presumed the police were looking into it , but he should have followed up
Yet another monster not punished because he is dead, hate how time after time people stay quiet whilst they are still alive
If he believed that I wonder at what point from 11 (eleven) years ago he thought "I wonder why nobody has been in contact with me to make a statement".This is a significant point from the Makin Report that does not seem to have widely reported:
