and why was the name changed from bradford to beswick
It hasn't Bradford and Beswick are next to each other, Beswick is west of Bradford.
This is correct, my first wife was from Siam Street Bradford and when we first met in the early 70s they were building Fort Bradford/Beswick, what a fucking eyesore and it was as rough as fuck, they also built a new pub next to it called The New Clock Face, Jesus wept fucking awful

Remember them pulling everything down as well, only up about 10 years if my memory serves me right

I would've said Beswick is south of Bradford. Beswick is centred on Grey Mare Lane and is south of Ashton New Road. Bradford pit was under the collar site next to the stadium which is north of Ashton New Road. Bradford was the streets around the pit and is the location of our stadium.

Another shit pub they built near Fort Beswick was the Honeycombe but that was on Rylance St which was Ardwick, our first house after we got married was a 2 up 2 down on Rylance St just a few doors down from the Honeycombe

Bradford was a weird place in terms of area, I am no expert on the area as when I met the first Mrs I lived in Salford

From what I remember Bradford started at Rylance St(Ardwick) and was all the small terraced houses up towardsthe small Bradford park..the Townley of today...and up to the Bradford pit, Beswick was where that crap precinct was near Grey Mare Lane cop shop, I was married in that church behind the precinct and had our reception in the old Clock Face on Ashton New Rd....God we were fuckin skint

The Wiki entries for Beswick and Bradford both claim that our stadium and asda are in their area.

I was born and raised in Bradford , Manchester .. and most , if not all , of the stadium now stands in land we , in the 1960's , always classed as being Bradford .... and also close to , if not on , the old 'Bradford Pit' site , which bordered Ashton New Road ...... mine tunnels still run deep beneath the stadium.

However it's quite possible that , as Sportscity is quite a large site , that parts of it do straddle the Beswick boundary.

As for it being pronounced Bes-ick , instead of Beswick ... that's just the way it is .... same with the name Dionne Warwick (pronounced War-ick) , and the London borough of Chiswick (pronounced Chis-ick ).

I've had this argument on here before, another 'I grew up round here poster' claimed that the ground was in Beswick and the boundary changed all the time. However, I agree with you and from old maps that I found from the 1930's a small corner of the land between Ashton New Rd and Rowsley St. but none of the buildings themselves are in Beswick,

The boundaries of Bradford/ Beswick area a grey area.....literally

Fort Ardwick (Coverdale Crescent) was miles arder than Fort Beswick..............

Playing on the piss stinking spray painted stairwells was a real joy (not)

It's BLAKE ley btw not fucking BLACK ley

The amount of times I've heard Radio Manc get it wrong is untrue.

Why is it pronounced Bes-ick, whilst the other is Ard-wick?

I remember the first time I had to deliver something to the Kwik Save at Fort Beswick (fuck me that was a scary place....) and got a little lost and asked a few people were Bes-wick was and got a fair few funny looks!

As a man who was born in Bes-ick... It just is.
