Are expections too high for next season?

The League will be the acid test. With tweaks, we will have a squad that is capable. While we aren't entitled to anything, we shouldn't be happy to settle for less.

A good showing in Europe will also be an important yardstick. I don't expect us to win it but we should certainly be consolidating on this year, when we finally became a team to be taken seriously in the competition.

I feel several posters are setting themselves up for a fall.
What if Guardiola loses his first 3 or 4 games in the league or gets knocked out of the chumps league?

Its football and winning anything is a bonus that will always require both skill and a little luck.

If I can see the club progressing football wise then I'd be happy enough.

That said, I think he will be very successful with us, just like the last 2 incumbents have been.

We're bound to still get the odd thrashing. Look at Pep's Bayern losing 4:1 to Wolfsburg last year. I can't wait for the first Pep Out thread. December, I reckon.

Next season will be far more difficult. You'll have traditionally muck teams like West Ham, Leicester and Spuds all on a major, major upswing. You'll see the chavs, dippers and rags fighting and clawing all the way through this transfer window. Who knows what'll happen at Arsenal.

So you are going to have upwards of 6 teams thinking they can win it. Yes, we'll no doubt have a phenomenal squad, but we'll be everyone's cup final. It will be extremely difficult for us and I'm sure every team will just be happy to be within reach of us going into the final 3rd of the season and then see what happens. So I do think we'll be much, much better but the title next season is going to be one of the most difficult to win.

So I'm taking titles out of it. I want to see performances. If Pep gets the performances right, the trophies will take care of themselves.

Pep isn't unbeatable, no-one is people have to remember that.

We lose first game of the season get ready for the media to doubt pep straight away.

He'll be happy after 3-4 years...

You know what I want to win more than most?

The FA CUP!!! We haven't won it in awhile and would love to get it again:

It's all about the style of football and the will to win returning for me next season.

There's been a spell of about 4 months this season where, for me, all the joy was taking out of going watching this current team and it became a chore. The play became slow and laboured and we barely created chances. We seem to be looking like we've come out the other side of that now but we can't be experiencing spells like that in a season.

Hopefully the new manager will create a style of play that is consistently stuck too even when we're struck by injuries, rather than one that requires a world class player to get you out of trouble constantly.

Finally. Someone who isn't spinning about like a dog trying to take a shit. Hats off to you mate. That should be what's minimally acceptable. And if he fails to make the finals, win a cup instead.

All the farfing and excusing is beyond silly. We are talking about players who should be amongst the best in the league here. Even if they are not fully gelled thru October, by December they should be humming. Which gives them 5 months to wrestle the league away from anyone.

Sure, unlike the Pelegrini haters, if 5 or 6 of Pep's key players get injured, we'd take that into consideration. Too bad the same fuks who don't think the injuries are an issue now, are the same ones whining about Pep not being able to teach his system. Fucking hypocrites!
Of course injuries have held us back this season foolish to pretend otherwise but I don't think we dealt with them in the best way possible. Anyway that is old news now lets all look forward to hopefully finishing this season off the way we started it. As for the question posed I think we must win the league next year as a minimum. However, I am not sure we can win the league and progress to the latter stages of the CL. I believe that if we had won those games against Leicester and Spurs we may now be top of the league but out of Europe.

Assuming we make top 4 (we will) and assuming Utd , Chelsea, and Liverpool don't (they won't) we should have a clear advantage in the summer transfer window.

Serious investment in this squad which will almost certainly be less affected by injuries to key players (to have 2 seasons with the level of injuries we have endured this year would be virtually impossible bad luck), means we should be seeing the title as virtually guaranteed.

We should continue our record of getting to domestic semis at least, there is no reason why a stronger squad with a purportedly better manager should regress in these competitions. Realistically a lge or fa cup final should be a knocking bet and as we would have the stronger squad v any opponent we should realistically expect to win at least one domestic cup.

We have got to the last 4 of the ecl this season with a corpse as manager. It would be a big step backwards not to at least equal this. We were in pot 2 this season too so that can be no excuse.

So in summary:

Title winners, one domestic cup at least, and last 4 of he CL should be the realistic minimum expectation. Anything less would be a (expensive no doubt) failure of epic proportions.

A tad ridiculous and if I dare say so, raggish
