Are United Really 17 Points Better Than Us ATM?

The turning point for me was getting beat away at Villa and drawing away at Birmingham.(same week?) Until that point we were right on their tails. We never recovered after those two setbacks.

Also losing to Shreks overhead kick was another blow.

Hit the nail on the head. Forget all the other slip ups, this is what will cost us 4th, only getting 1 point out of 6 in them two games. That is when I knew we would hand it to Spurs again and that is starting to happen.

Er, what??

Well last season they were 18 points better off having beaten us home and away. All I would hope for is that that gap has narrowed, we have a top 4 place and won FA cup, but knowing the typical city effect it will be Stoke to win FA cup Spurs in 4th and them bastards to not only win league but win the CL as well. For what it is worth they are a better squad than us and until Bert has got rid of all the moaners and groaners and replaced the twenty five with his players and have had time to gel as a unit I expect the same each year.
hope he's got some good uns lined up to replace Hart, Kompany, De Jong,Zabba and Tevez then.

Ignore him. He's an Everton fan.

If you averaged things out over the prem years we have finished 46 points behind them every season,so do you think we have made improvement?

Sorry but I find that difficult to believe, unless you include the years when we were in the lower divisions. Please supply the data.

I'd guess that is just the points difference their finishing league position and ours, regardless of what division we were playing in. It wouldn't be that hard to believe in some of those seasons actually. The Pearce season, the Royle relegation season, Frank Clark, Alan Ball. In some of those seasons, I'd be surprised if it was only 46 points!!

The cracks are showing though, they've relied too heavily on their resilience and persistence this season. They really need to spend big in the summer or the rest of the top 5/6 will close the gap significantly.

we said that last season!

haha I was just about to say that. I'm amazed at how good they've been this year with the players they have. Nowhere near as good as the other "two squads" Ferguson had but they are very consistent. A lot of the time though teams are beaten before they walk out at OT and this shows in the way they line up.

And this isn't meant to sound bitter but they do get the rub of the green with referees and luck. Look at Rooney's freak goal against us for evidence.

The settled nature of their squad is worth at least 10 points to them. We should improve by that amount next year as players such as Yaya, Silva, Balotelli (if he's still here), Kolarov, Dzeko and Boateng become more used to the PL.
