Are we clearly suffering from a lack of striker this season? Have midtable sides figured us out?

We didn't lose because we went down to 10 men. We lost because we were crap on the day.

A collection of tired and/or out of sorts players tied to a slow, overthought system lacking pace, a focal point or individuality.

We miss Leroy Sane, a midfield powerhouse in the mould of prime Yaya, and a proper line leader like Haaland.
exactly it was not a one off. the same thing has happened about 6-7 times this season and we have dropped points. right now we are struggling to break down packed defenses or more specifically mid table teams.

And at least part of the reason we went down to 10 men was because we were crap on the day.

Score 1st against City and 9 times out of 10 you win.

That's a stat that doesn't lie, and is one reason why many teams try to 'throw the kitchen sink' at us for the first 10 or 15 minutes of games. Coaches know that an early goal disrupts us.

Palace had us beaten as soon as they scored yesterday.

Their are good strikers out there at the right price, look at the difference Maxwell Cornet has made at Burnley. Long time since I have felt so pessimistic before a derby, no goals no wins simples.

For me it's the lack of game discipline that results in the loss of focus, and that in turns makes players nervous,
so instead of playing a quick game we end up hurrying it - KdB at the beginning of the last season was and example.
I don't think teams figured us out, or Pep has been found out, the problem the longer we don't score the more nervous we become,
we start chasing the game with more and more risky passes, unnecessary crosses and all that when losing positional cohesion. Or lately (this season) we just fall away and play ultra safe.
Teams definitely see that and employ it as the highest yield approach. A case in point - a game against Leicester when Kompany
scored with a screamer, and WHU from the last week when Zinch almost did it.
And then there is Pep, who tweaked the tactics again, so he ll need to find the solution.

Given that we won 3 from the last 4 PL seasons, it's not a particularly important stat. Obviously, it's not easy to score first against City and the consequences for the league campaign are not big when it happens. Also, this team has won highly important games this year or has avoided losses this season after conceding first: Dortmund, Paris, Liverpool.

To think that Palace had as beaten as soon as they scored is to exaggerate. If we can score twice at Anfield after being down twice, we can do it at the Etihad against any team in the world, great, good or average.

I'd like to see the real stats for our games at the Etihad when we concede first. I'm sure they are not that bad (1:10) anyway.

Thanks mate, not as bad as some say. Our record could be better, of course. Since we don't concede first often, it's normal that (some) players get nervous when it happens. Pep should work on it.

I think we'd find that it's probably Pep who gets nervous if/when we go behind in a game. It means his game plan has gone wrong.

City are obviously a very close knit unit. Pep clearly wears his heart on his sleeve, and it's likely that his mood will transfer to the players.

He gets too wound up sometimes - it's only natural. The problem is that, in virtually any line of work, if the staff see the manager 'lose it', things don't tend to go well afterwards.
