are we wasting this window?

I understand why people are suggesting that we require defensive recruitments and i would agree that it's an area that could be improved.
The thing that is puzzling me is that nobody has said we need a creative midfielder, as i think this is probably as important as any other position. If Ireland gets crocked, which is a definite possibility, then we are without any genuine creative midfielder in the squad.
Barry can do certain jobs and do them well, but a creative fulcrum he isn't. And with Johnson out for the rest of the season then i think this position needs to be adressed pretty quickly.
Any thoughts?

akin to Tolmie's comments I suppose that we have enough quality squad players and that the additions that now need to be made are the world class talents that will take us to the next level.

what still sits in my mind though is that we have allowed Hughes to spend circa 250mil in 3 windows yet we aren't going to allow Bobby Manc, who looks like he has more talent in one fingernail than Hughes, a decent sum to ENSURE 100% that we piss it into the top4.

even if we assume that Bobby Manc isn't here past the summer it still doesn't make sense that we don't grasp the golden opportunity of making the chumps league this year - its not like another 50 mil is going to bother Sheikh Mansour when we know for a fact that top4 is the ultimate goal this year.

Do you really think Mancini has nothing to spend? That if was to say to the good Sheikh - "this player would improve us no end but would cost £20M", that he would be turned down?

Come on now.

i'm worried about our targets/ non signings, we have a fantastic chance to finish in the top 4 yet i feel we are'nt really "going for it".
of course its early days but i just feel uneasy, we know our weaknesses, we can buy the best in every department yet it seems all so quiet, if not quiet our targets are scary.

i dont know about anyone else but i was really looking forward to this window, it just seems to be passing us by, we can't let this chance go, it would be just criminal.

thoughts?

Only the 8th Bill ... another 23 days yet!

Our squad is good enough anyway!

I feel there is a very good reason why we are not "going mad" this January.

and you feel the reason is what mate?

In short No - we are really only 5 working days into it and Vieira looks likely to be done today and there are reports of a left back deal is on the cards. The problem is we have become accustomed to large transfers as fans, instead of looking at the transfer fees we need to start looking more closly at the players Bobby is bringing in.

In truth we dont need many new players - a new left back yes please and a new centre half yes please but in truth if the centre half was 30 plus something i would not be too upset as we have plenty of players who can play in this position and we have a short term problem which will resolve itself shortly.

Richards looks like he is pulling his socks up so not too worried about a new right back.

I see where you are coming from De Niro but i feel Bobby is being sensible with who he buys, Paddy Vieira will be a very shrewd buy plus if we get Ansaldi and Kjear then we are buying excellent young quality imo. The thing is to really go for it we need to be looking at players such as Maicon, Chiellini and a top quality Attacking Midfielder but these types of players are integral to their clubs and even £20mill+ bids will not be enough to prise them away from their clubs so we are in a very difficult position. We have an excellent squad, only second behind Chelsea imo, and all we need is a few tweeks here and there and we will push on.

Ireland dont play everygame - if he was first choice then i would agree but the fact he dont would indicate that the players we have are considered at least as good.

not sure if you have read the whole thread mate but as i said earlier i expect us to sign this Ansaldi fella for 5/6mil and a centre half for up to 10mil but i get the feeling that will be it.

i may well be wrong and we go and spunk 100mil but at the moment i get the feeling that his budget is minimal which may imply he is babysitting until the summer.

We would definitely be wasting this window if we were paying 20 million for players we neither need nor are worth the money even if we did need them, unlike another manager I could name.
iirc last january we bought
de jong
bellamy
bridge
given
which one of them were a waste? nevermind that none were £20 million!

It's a bit early to say yet De Niro give the guy a chance!! I think we need 2/3 additions and they do not have to be bank busters as we need to keep the players we have happy and focused so bringing in loads of big names would just upset the balance at the moment.
