are we wasting this window?

We would definitely be wasting this window if we were paying 20 million for players we neither need nor are worth the money even if we did need them, unlike another manager I could name.
iirc last january we bought
de jong
bellamy
bridge
given
which one of them were a waste? nevermind that none were £20 million!

er, Bridge - an inept signing - on so many levels - both on and off the pitch.

all a matter of opinion

three of them have been the consistent mainstay of the team
according to many bridge was playing well, certainly not a waste, but then maybe he is to the boo boys

He is the best left back Ive seen at City for years and has played well this season.

None of them was a waste because the players we had we no where near as good as the players we currently had - and remember we just came of the back of the 3 - 1 defeat against Forest - but we have these players now and there is only a couple of positions we need players for.

Given and Bellamy was a snip - DJ was overpriced but has since proven his worth but Bridge was way way way overpriced.

if we can get the argie left back in, then this is all that i think the squad actually needs to put a challenge in to the top 4 cartel. this is the only truly weak position we have.

the rest of it is getting the tactics right, and getting the players' mental state right. it will become clear in the next 4-6 weeks if mancini can achieve this.

Perfect and if we don't get him, I still expect top 4. We do not need a lot - top 4 and the summer will be a fun time.

Our main weakness was the coaching, that looks like its been resolved, the players were already good enough to be top 4, and a couple of clever signings such as Vieira will take us there in my opinion. Very happy at the moment.

Lets make the big signings in the summer (and not too many of them either).

Agreed about Bridge - but sometimes he looses it ala Burnley - i guess that the difference between very good players and outstanding players not necessarily the footballing skills of each individual players but the decisions they make during the game.

Do you really think Mancini has nothing to spend? That if was to say to the good Sheikh - "this player would improve us no end but would cost £20M", that he would be turned down?

Come on now.

not sure if you have read the whole thread mate but as i said earlier i expect us to sign this Ansaldi fella for 5/6mil and a centre half for up to 10mil but i get the feeling that will be it.

i may well be wrong and we go and spunk 100mil but at the moment i get the feeling that his budget is minimal which may imply he is babysitting until the summer.
What more would you want? A quality left back for roughly a third of the cost of Bridge, and a young, up and coming centre back for just £10m. Why would we need anything on top of that? The quality of the player is not indicated by the amount of money we spend on him. All we need this window is more competition in midfield so that we don't have to play Sylvinho there again, a left back, and a centre back. You've just intimated that that is EXACTLY what we are going to bring in... yet you appear almost depressed about it. Hughes assembled the bulk of our all-conquering squad for us. Now it's just left for Mancini to tweak it, and introduce tactics to it. That's all we need to do. Nothing more.
