Arsenal announce redundancies and financial issues

How long can any club retain employees whose jobs are currently redundant as a consequence of no crowd involvement e.g ticket offices, stewards catering hospitality etc. Can’t stand Arsenal but have they made this as a informed decision based on projected dates for return of “real” match days. There has to be a breaking point when such a action has to be taken.

I fear the worse...I.e. we are not going to get back to normal match days at least this side of Christmas. The big clubs will start what Arsenal have seemingly kicked off today we all can trim our operations and remain viable but that will only apply to about 10 -15% of the professional 92 clubs in England. I fear the worst story is still the Wigan situation which will end up with tens of clubs having to reform as non professional part time clubs. What pisses me off is EPL and Fa will just watch it happen saw that with Bury and now Wigan

I would be devastated if our club behaved in the same way as the furloughing dippers or Arse whose ticket prices are disgustingly high and dont think fuck all of paying high salaries to players whilst binning off low paid disposable workers

The best thing football could do in the current financial climate is stop giving out 5-year contracts and give players rolling 12-month contracts with a 3 or 6-month notice period. That would stop players moving for a big fee and hefty wages then deciding they can't be arsed anymore, like Ozil or Adebayor. Or players that just don't measure up.

If they fuck you about or aren't what you thought, just give them 3 or 6-months notice, or pay them off for the notice period. That'd reduce costs and players would actually have to play for their money instead of taking the piss.

Good timing, just as we give Nathan Ake a five year contract :-)

55 people made redundant due to a big drop in revenue. The pandemic has hit them hard.

It's right at the start of the transfer window, it's going to be frowned upon if they go and spend money on players now. I mean they're currently linked to Willian at £130k a week and will have to offer Aubameyang a huge pay rise to stay. However, they can't pay 55 people, seems a bit ridiculous really.

Thay can't be right - I'd take two of him for that.........

When you swap your chicken and mushroom pies for Beef and Kale salad with crispy chickpeas it confirms that club is a wrong un.

Those wages from the people made redundant could easily be covered by the salary of one of their under achievers on the pitch.

These clubs are the ones who created the system because they don't want competition for talent, they'd rather go the other way and have long-term contracts with salary caps.
