Arsenal (H) | PL | Post-match Thread

I'd like to think that if the positions were reversed, and we were 2-1 up and down to 10 men, we'd be more adventurous than those tarquin twats.

But you've got to ask some fundamental questions of Pep and his staff. Do we not practice drills when teams implement a low block? Fortunately the Grealish & Stones subs paid off but all we seemed to do was pass the ball from side to side. When Savinho had the ball in the wide area, there was no one running into the space behind the full back, and he was forced to play it back inside. There's so little creativity when your midfield is Gundogan, Kovacic and Bernardo. Foden should have been on much earlier.

And how come Arsenal appear to have a plan for corners and can execute it, when it's just hit and hope from us?
I agree Pep should have done better with our setup once they collapsed in to the 5-4 and had no intention of leaving the box, and said as much earlier int he thread. Dias should not have been left as out de facto playmaker, as he has never been decisive on the ball, nor is he a good passer or shooter (those are simply not his gifts). And him getting the ball more than any other player hamstrung out attack against the double parked bus.

But I somewhat disagree about the second goal.

Yes, Walker should have tracked Gabriel a bit better, and I do think Haaland should have been on the far post to try to win anything there (as well as shielded Arsenal players running in).

Ultimately, though, we were undone by tactics that we can do nothing to combat because the referees allow the Arsenal players to block off the keeper. Ederson has no recourse but to try to go to ground and convince the ref to give a free kick. He can’t charge through the players, as that will be a penalty. He can’t throw them to the side, as that will again be a penalty. He can’t run around them, as that would have the same outcome of just standing there (i.e. he’ll get nowhere near the ball).

Until the referees actually penalise the Arsenal players for employing the two or three player block off (with no intention of playing the ball), whoever is defending the corners or free kicks will be at a substantial disadvantage. No one can get higher than the keeper in the box and preventing that player from getting anywhere near the ball substantially increases the likelihood that your side will create a chance on goal.

And Arteta and co know this and capitalise on it regularly. They are not supreme corner tactic geniuses. This is one of the oldest ploys in football, it had just been recently more consistently enforced as fouls. But over the last season in to this one, Arsenal in particular have been allowed to regularly implement it without much in the way of sanction (the same could be said of many of their “tactics” we saw today).

As long as that is the state of play (or officiating), they will continue to score a lot of goals from set pieces.

I've heard the Club are really worried about Phil's mental health, could be absolute bollocks hopefully, I'm worried for our local talisman, I'll say no more but others may have more info.
Mental health, you obviously know a bit more on this but not gonna push for more information only that let’s hope Phil gets all the help he needs,if this is correct..

Reading comments on the BBC hys on the game today the majority and that’s not just City fans, are calling them out over their antics today ..
Unfortunately, Michael Oliver didn't seem to have full control of the match today.
How Arsenal managed to get the game stopped 3 times because one of their players sat down, mystified me ?
Why did Oliver stop the game when an Arsenal player gives down on his own accord ?
It is obviously a time-wasting tactic that helps stop the flow of the game.
Arteta and his players are absolute cowards who try every dirty tactic in the book.
Well done City for sticking at it until the ebd

I watched the match and felt myself get more and more angry as it progressed. The blatant use of "the dark side" of our beautiful game by Arsenal tells me football is finished unless officials clamp down on the cheating, time wasting antics of clubs like Artetas mob. I was disgusted at the tactics employed by Arsenal and they spoke volumes of their ambition to win at any costs. Justice was done when City equalised in time added on due to their time wasting and tbh another 7 minutes could/ shouldhave been added on !

I’m no pep but with the way Arsenal sat deep Dias was seeing 90% of the ball in that central area, our worst ball player on the pitch. Why not take a gamble and have gundo sat in there at centre half someone with an eye for a pass?

Disappointing afternoon after going 1-0 up and Gundogan inches from making it 2. Until their goal Arsenal were creaking.

Still it feels like we’re in Pep’s beta testing phase of the season. Trying to work out the best way of setting us up but If Rodri’s injury is as serious as it looked then Pep will have another completely different problem to solve. However he usually does solve them.

The way in which Arsenal sneakily approached Arteta to become their manager and the way he agreed to meet with them without telling his current employers shows how classless both they and he are.
Their current team reflects this lack of class and such cynical football does not deserve any success or admiration.
17 yo nobody gets booked when warming up! Not even played for them yet.

Another arrogant prick in the making.

I was so wet and cold when I arrived home I just jumped into the shower so I am sorry for the late posting on the very day I wanted to shout and holler with joy!!!!
@jimharri put in your ear plugs sunshine I'm about to go bananas!!!

THE BOYS IN BLUE DID NOT GIVE IN, BOY DID THEY NOT, THEY FOUGHT TO THE END, THE VERY END. THANK YOU CITY, THANK YOU LADS, THANK YOU FANS AND A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU JOHN STONES.
You showed 'em lads, you showed 'em all. Especially that cheating, disgusting, underhanded, devious load of dillweed that like to call themselves the gunners, the Southern fudge nuggets!! Especially their absolutely fatherless man who allegedly coaches them, all he coaches them in is how to manipulate the 4th official and the linesman and how to scythe our players to the ground. *please insert 3 real swear words there*
Especially the know nowt, good for nothing load of media googly moogly trollops. I haven't as yet seen anything they have had to say but I can imagine.
And my special especially is reserved for that Specsavers needing possibly on the verge of blindness alleged referee and his fellow officials, the scaredy cat, kitty whiskers, pish posh pooh on a whistle load of shitake mushrooms on toast that they are.
I have never seen a team who cheated so blatantly and were determined from 30 seconds in that they were going to get rid of Rodders. The tottering tadpole wingnuts were disgraceful.
However you load of codswalloping stupid grasshoppers once more we showed you who we are:
MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD. SO THERE!!!!!

Other than that I quite enjoyed it. However I would choose today to decide not to spend my money on the overpriced water in the stadium meaning I had no lubrication for my voice which I have just tested and it has disappeared!!
Possibly because when he brought John Boy on and Jackie I shouted so loudly, 'We will be ok now, John Stones is here and just as a back up Jackie' to all and sundry around me who were laughing a little at me. This on top of screeching (sorry folks around me) so loudly all game at Arteta to get back in his technical area and how come he spends more time on the pitch than his players, has not done my voice any good at all. :-)
BUT IT WAS JUSTIFIED,,,,,,, HE DID IT,,,,,MY HERO DID IT... I KNEW HE WOULD.

Please Mr @jimharri forgive my shouting just this once? Pretty please? :-) :-)
Fudge nuggets!!!!

Chapeau.

I've heard the Club are really worried about Phil's mental health, could be absolute bollocks hopefully, I'm worried for our local talisman, I'll say no more but others may have more info.
That doesn’t sound great tbh.

He looked mentally tired to me. Everyone goes through ups and downs, footballers are no different.

Hopefully he gets the help needed.

Relieved City got a point. But as unlikeable as Arteta and his team are, City found no way through Arsenal's defence after Rodri went off; that seemed to take the wind out of the whole team and if it had been 11 v 11 in the second half the game looked more likely to end 3-1 to Arsenal than a draw.

Also I think the 115 charges case might be starting to get into players' heads now the trial has started - anyone except maybe Foden in this team must be wondering whether they fancy playing Crewe and Leyton Orient next season.
It is NOT fuckin TRIAL!

Shithousery and cheating.

The Arsenal cunts came to injure Rodri, the coward cunts. We were destroying them until he went off in pain.
Next the red cartel **** OlivArpool gave them two goals, but couldn't avoid sending their shithouse player.
Arsenal cunts parked the bus, helped by the ref and our lack of variants. The Arsenal cunts thought the had it won, but Super Jack and Johnny Stones had the last word. We fought to the end.

Did I mentioned that Arsenal are cheating cunts?

Yes, Arsenal cunts are cheats. And their fans are crying cunts.
